1. Open of Naples
The FISTF season started last week-end in Naples (Italy). 109 players competed in the individual tournament and many top players were present. In the Open final, Carlos Flores beat Vasco Guimaraes (2-1) while Massimo Cremona and Saverio Bari reached the semis. In the other categories, the finals were as follows:
Veterans: Severino Gara - Stefano De Francesco 0-3
U15: Andrea Manganello - Diego Tagliaferri 1-2
Ladies: Valentina Bartolini - Eleonora Buttitta 3-0
U12: Ernesto Gentile - Andrea Ciccarelli 2-0 In the team tournament, 24 squads were taking part. The guys of ASD Reggio Emilia gave no chance to the Eagles Napoli to get a home win. Flores, Bari, Cremona and Lamberti beat the Eagles 4-0 to pick up the trophy.

2. All Ireland championship
Correction: the results and pictures can be seen on the following link:
www.nitfa.org.uk

3. FISTF decision about the situation in Greece (by Janus Gersie) 1. With immediate effect PATFAP is the one and only recognised Greek association within FISTF.
2. This membership is provisional until 30 june 2010.
3. Any failure in compliance with the conditions and requirements stated in this message can lead to a
a) withdrawal of recognition or
b) prolongation of provisional membership and/or
c) fine (upper limit 500 €)
4. A complete recognition (full membership) has to be granted by the Congress in 2010.
5. PATFAP is allowed to nominate teams and players by own regulations for the WorldCup and the EuropaCup.
6. PATFAP is allowed to organize the number of tournaments like a member nation.
7. All greek players and teams - even if they are not member of PATFAP - are allowed to play in every international tournament.
8. Players/teams qualified by WorldRanking are allowed to play the WorldCup and/or the EuropaCup even if they are not member of PATFAP.
9. Due to fact that PATFAP is a legal association with an existing board FISTF will communicate with the relevant Board Member (here: President)

Conditions:
1. Send the statutes of PATFAP to FISTF (already done !) 2. Send a membership list to FISTF (Negotiator Janus Gersie) latest 15 october 2008.
3. Send membership matters (procedure of becoming a member, yearly fees,
etc.) latest 15 october 2008 to Janus Gersie.
4. Send a Statement in lieu of an oath that PATFAP BoD is as declared (on the fax FISTF received) and that every listed name has been elected (latest
15 october 2008 to Janus Gersie)

Explanatory statement:
After the succesful fusion of PATF and PATFAP to PATFAP there is a governing body for tablefootball in Greece. FISTF needs one clear communication channel and a strong association that is capable to bring forward our beloved sport. Negotiations has shown that there is a lack of reliable information and sentiments. The way FISTF has been treated was sometimes full of disrespect. Therefore FISTF only grants a provisional membership. Along the dicussions and negotiations of the last months FISTF hasn't been able to find out what's right and what's wrong in Greece. This is not a failure of FISTF but of the acting people from Greece. Summarized there are still strong doubts about the whole situation in Greece. On the other side there has to be a clear way how to calm down and smooth ruffled feathers in Greece.

4. FISTF decision about Kostas Kechris's ban (by Janus Gersie) 1. Kostas Kechris's ban will be finished per 30 september 2008.
2. As per 1 october 2008 Kostas Kechris is allowed to play international tournaments 3. A probation period of two months (until 30 november 2008) is imposed.
During this period a new failure would lead to a considerable higher ban.

Explanatory statement:
FISTF decided to give power to PATFAP as the one and only recognised association of Greece. As a sign of greatness FISTF decided now to finish the ban of Kostas Kechris. FISTF wants PATFAP and all Greek players being strongly involved in the international circuit again. FISTF hopes that this decision will lead to a development of our beloved sport in Greece and will bring forward reunification of all Greek players.

5. Italy: new club in Ravenna (by Alberto Amadei) I proudly announce that a new club is born in Italy. It's our A.S.D.
Ravenna Calcio-Tavolo 2001, called 2001 even if born in 2008 because all the players are 42 y.o. and after having founded the Subbuteo Club Ravenna in far 1981, they all come back to play in the new reality of Table-football in 2001.

6. Portugal: new Board
Jorge Silva is the new APS BoD President, Sergio Loureiro & Nuno Noronha are the Vice-presidents. Elections took place last Saturday in Campolide.
APS official contact remains at http://apssubbuteo.no.sapo.pt Jorge Silva's contact is thossa.buesing@fistf.com

Luis will be in charge of the communication department and will bring new ideas on how to develop communication among members. 3. Satellite of Knighton (report by Algy Taylor) Cardiff Bluebirds' Colin Lewis won Wales' first FISTF Satellite - held at Knighton Town Football Club - last weekend in a penalty shootout victory against teammate David Lauder.

Lewis won his group by the narrowest of margins, scoring a rare goal against David Lauder to tie the match 1-1, before beating Algy Taylor 2-1 in a closely fought game. Meanwhile, home player Tom Taylor endured a torrid time with heavy defeats against England International Martin Hodds and Scotsman Bob Ramsay.

Hodds won his group to progress directly to the semi-final, where he faced David Lauder. Lauder had struggled to see off Cypriot Paul Andreas in the barrage, but started to find his form against Hodds, notching up a 1-0 victory. The second semi-final also ended 1-0 to the Welsh player, with Colin Lewis victorious over Bob Ramsay to set up a Cardiff derby in the final.

Lewis went 1-0 up before David Lauder equalised with a second half goal.
After the goal the game petered out, and after an extremely uneventful extra time period the game went to penalties. Both players failed to score with their first three shots, but Colin Lewis eventually managed to break the deadlock and take the historic title back to Cardiff.

2. FISTF Future of Frameries
31 players from 6 belgian clubs competed in this saturday's FISTF Future tournament of Frameries (Belgium. 15 players were dropped in the Open section while the 16 others played in the U15 section. Many surprises occured in the early rounds, in particular when Patrick Peltier (AS
Hennuyer) beat club-mate Philippe Mairesse in the quarter-final. In the semis, Peltier took the best on Renald Deloose (Templeuve) while Olivier Saffer (Rochefort) trashed Geert Leys (SC Flanders). In the final, Saffer and Peltier met for the second time of the dray. After a 1-1 draw in the group stage, the Rochefort player managed to beat the oldest player of the tournament (2-1) to win his first international title. In the U15 section, Anthony Franck (SC Flanders) was the only dutch-speaking player but he managed to beat all french-speaking players to win the title after a short victory against Quentin Wattiez (AS Hennuyer) in the final (2-1 sudden death). In the afternoon, the other categories were played. Jos Ceulemans (SC Flanders) won the veterans final against club-mate  Dirk Franck (3-0) while Jérémie Gosset (AS Hennuyer) won the U19 final on shots against Korneel Marchand (SC Flanders). Kenny De Schuyteneer (Brussels United) was clearly the strongest player in the U12 section. He beat Stephen Despretz (AS Hennuyer) on a clear 4-0 in the final. In the third part of the day, 7 teams played the team event on a knock-out format. In the final, SC Flanders managed to beat Templeuve United on goal-difference after a 2-2 draw. The SC Flanders team was formed by Jos Ceulemans, Dirk Franck, Dimitri schuermans and Geert Leys. This tournament was definately a grat day of table football for all the competitors as most players managed to play a lot of games in a friendly but competitive spirit.

3. Future of Limassol
13 players competed in the FISTF Future tournament in Limassol. This was the 4th FISTF ever on the island and definately the greatest tournament since Cuprus joined FISTF. New players took part to their first tournament and for the first time the even was played in 4 groups. After the group stage and the quarter-finals, the favorites met in the semis. Giorgos Zangylos needed a goal in the sudden death to beat Stefanos Kouratzis, a Greek player based in Cyprus, while Dimitris Parperis and George Vassiliades met in a derby between the two members of Nicosia TFC.
Vassiliades, who spends a big part of the year in California for work, won the game 2-1. In the final, Zangylos and Vassiliades couldn't make the difference after the game and the sudden death and finally, George Vassiliades took the trophy after a short victory on shots.

4. Open of Pireus (by Chris Aggelinas)
The tournament was organized mainly by the club of Pireas Lions. Several other players helped the project. The tournament was played in a luxury hall in a central hotel in the city center. In the U15 (even if most of the players are U12) we had 4 groups of 4. For now one player is by far the best but we have 3 or 4 good enough for the future. In the veterans 12 players were divided in groups of 3. Then we had the teams. 9 teams from 7 clubs were there. The home team Lions played with 3 teams and the C team was with only under 15 players. hopefully in this season we will have and an unofficial u15 team competition.
In the open we decide to proceed with the draw Saturday early in the afternoon. At this point we had 68 players. Unfortunately till Sunday morning we had some excused cancellations. The draw was published and so Sunday morning we had the dilemma either made another draw with the correct number of players (and that mean delay and possibly rumors about unfair
treatment) or keep the draw as it is with some groups of three. We decide to keep the draw as it was. The main cancellation was Triantafillou (no 4 of the tournament) and Stamatopoulos (no 17 of the tournament). Both of them were present Saturday and we accepted the excuse that they used. At the same time 18 players who didn't qualify from the groups played a plate competition. In the same competition we had one pore player who was residence in the hotel. He saw the advertisement and come to us to watch and later on he asked to play. Sunday September 28 we had the open category. Finally 61 players played in the category.
The great favorite nicos Beis (Roligans) once again was the winner in a Greek tournament. In the final he beat Spyros Hantzaras  (Falcons0 2-1.
Both of them succeed the same score in the semis 2-1 in sudden death against Giorgos Tsombanididis ans Velisarrios Fragakis (both Roligans).
The Aggelinas brothers, Dimos Tsombanidis and Lazaros Papakonstantinou completed the last eight.
At the same time in the plate competition (for those who didn't qualify from the groups) Kordantonopoulos Giannis (aek0 beat Leonidas Koutroumanos (pireas lions) in the final.

The main results:
Open final: Nikos Beis - Spyros Hantzaras 2-1
U15 final: Giannis Vlassopoulos - Dimitris Dimopoulos 5-1 Veterans final: Marcos Kapsambelis - Aggelos Tsakiris 1-3 Teams final: TSC Falcons Athens - Roligans Ilioupolis TSC 1-0

Dionisis Koutis - Dimos Tsombanidis 2-0
Spyros Hantzaras - Velissarios Fragakis 2-2 Kostas Triantafillou - Nikos Beis 2-2 George Koutis - George Tsombanidis 1-1

7. USA: Maricopa Cup R7 (by Simon Hutchinson) Saturday's seventh round of the Maricopa Cup saw Wayne Smith finish top of the table, saying this was some of the best Subbuteo he has ever played.
David Jensen, competing in his third tournament, caused an upset beating Kevin Nieman by a single goal. With the special Maricopa point system (win = 3, draw = 2, loss = 1) Munir Merchant finished in second place with one win and three draws. Kevin claimed third with one win and two draws. Simon Hutchinson finished in fourth, with the same number of wins and draws as Kevin, but played less games than the other players. We did shoot video during this competition, which will be added to the site when it has been edited.

Munir's third game on Saturday was his 100th. He is the eighth player in the Southern California Subbuteo Club to reach this milestone. This is all the more remarkable as he has only been playing for eight months.

12. Italy: S.S. Lazio football vs S.S. Lazio Table Football (by Stefano
Tagliaferri)
On Wednesday October, 15th S.S. Lazio Football players with their captain Tommaso Rocchi will join the players from S.S. Lazio Table Football in a great celebration of Diego Tagliaferri and Micael Caviglia's respectively golden and bronze medals achieved at the last FISTF table football World Championship in Wien. A white and blue happening that will host all our young players (and those who are less young too...) in a truly unforgettable afternoon ... who knows what surprises the matches between Rocchi and Tagliarri, or Pandev and Caviglia as well as all the others will bring about? It for sure will be an afternoon of great "lazialityness", great fun, great football and table football!!!

1. Open of Stembert
The Austrians of Mattersburg gave no chance to anyone to beat them in this year's FISTF Open of Stembert. 17 teams were competing and many of them had a very strong squad but the final was just another game between Mattersburg
(Austria) and Perugia(Italy). In this game, only Fabio Belloni managed to draw with Eric Verhagen while the three other Mattersburg players won their games. Markus Matzinger defeated Stefano De Francesco (1-0) while Erich Hinkelmann beat Martijn Bom (3-1) and Wolfgang Leitner took the best on Arturo Martínez (3-2). Some of the other top teams had disappointing results. SC Charleroi didn't pass the first round. The 4th top seed had only 3 players in Stembert and Charleroiended 3rd in a group of 4 after 2 defeats against SC Verviers and TFC Mattersburg B. Despite the presence of teams from 5 countries, the host nation managed to put 2 teams in the semi-finals. SC Stembert lost 3-1 to Mattersburg while Rochefort lost on a single goal (8 to 9) to Perugiaafter a 1-1 draw.

Open category
Valéry Dejardin was on fire on sunday when winning the first edition of the Stembert Open. The young player from Rochefort was the only one to prevent the Mattersburg squad to make a perfect week-end as he beat Karl-Heinz Haider in quarter-final (3-1) before winning against Markus Matzinger in the semi (on shots after a 2-2 draw) and Wolfgang Leitner in the final (2-1). Dejardin wins his senond tournament in a row, one week after winning the open of Bergkamen (Germany) and one month after winning the national tournament of Verviers. The other highlights of the tournaments were as
follows:
- Eric Verhagen's large victory on David Leroy in the last 16 round (9-0).
A week before, Leroy had beaten Verhegn in the quarter-final of the Open of Bergkamen.
- Wolfgang Leitner's win on Eric Verhagen in the semi-final. This was a rematch of the last world cup's semi-final. But now both players are clubmates.
- Markus Matzinger's come-back. After a short break, MArkus provd to be a very strong player again.
- 51 players were taking part in the Open category. Philippe Hipfinger (7) and Axel Donval (8) were the only seeded players to be out in the first round.

The ladies
6 of the world's top 10 players attended the Open of Stembert on Sunday.
The tournament (with 12 players from 3 nations) was really interesting and the level of the competition was high. In the group stage, Françoise Guyot
(n°1) and Elodie Bertholet (n°2) managed to end first of their groups but the other two seeds had more difficult moments than expected. Magali Doumont (n°4) ended in second position in a though group with Arielle Guyot and Audrey Herbaut while Victoria Büsing (n°6) drew both games against Sylvie Guyot and Annick Fraikin-Poncelet. In the quarter-finals, Céline Grandmougin had a though group but finally beat Sylvie Guyot on a single goal (3-2) before meeting Françoise Guyot in the semi. The world number 1 won her semi on a close 2-1 while Elodie Bertholet, the only Belgian in the last 4, equalized in the last 30 seconds before scoring a golden goal to beat Arielle Guyot. In the final, François Guyot scored an early goal but couldn't make the difference before the 18th minute. When the score moves to 2-0, Bertholet put Guyot under pressure but the french girl scored three other goals on counter-attacks to win the final on a clear 5-1.

The youth
Two of the rising stars in the FISTF circuit won another tournament this week-end in Stembert. In the U19 section, Jerrel Van Keimpema from the Netherlands proved he's one of the most talented players in the category after winning the final against Michaël Denooz (Belgium) on a clear 5-2. In the U15 tournament, Antonio De Francesco from Italy won the tournament after beating his last 2 opponents on the same score. In th semi, Stefano's son beat Bryan Spiroux 2-1 before beating Jérémie Gosset (2-1) in the final. In the U12 section, only 3 players were taking part and Keny De Schuyteneer beat brother Bryan on an amazing score of 7-6.

The veterans
Stefano De Francesco won the re-match of the world cup final against Martijn Bom. Both players met a couple of times in the last few months but this time, the situationw as very different as both players now play for the same club of ACS Perugia. If Bom is the reigning world champion, De Francesco won the Stembert Open final on a clear 5-0. The level of the tournament was quite interesting with 24 different players from 6 countries. Some "younger" veterans like Jean-Pierre Genart and Richard Boulanger were playing their first competition in this category while Alphonse Paulis, a former belgian international (in the early 80's) was playing his first big tournament for years. The only surprise in the group stage was Charles Goset's victory on Thorsten Büsing to take the group's first stage but in the barrage round, Büsing managed to qualify for the quarter-finals. Finally, René Bolte and Erich Hinkelmann also managed to reach the semi-finals but Bom and De Francesco were really too strong this sunday.

7. Argentina: San Marino wins in Rosario (by Claudio Miscia) Rosario, October 2008- It's over! After a nine-months competition, the first edition of the "Serie A Rosario" is over. In the new place of the Asociación Subbuteo Rosario 2008 the last match was played between Boca Juniors and San Marino. On the first half San Marino scored one goal making the "goleada" on the second half: 5-0, until Boca Juniors could score its only goal, on a penalty kick.
9 months, 14 players, 26 rounds, 182 matches (in a home-and-away double match "everyone-against-everyone" tournament), 460 goals scored: we doubt whether something similar has ever been played evereywhere!
Excelent work of the Directory Committee of ASR08, which organized the prize-giving ceremony by inviting all 14 participants to the tournament, along with their families and journalists. San Marino (Claudio Miscia) took the golden medal, in addition to the official association shield, which he won the right to carry sewn on his shirt during next sporting season. Plate medal for Milan (Gustavo Di Giannantonio) and bronze to Roma (Benedetto Colarossi). In the categories; Claudio Miscia won the Veterans' medal, Marco Miscia (Fiorentina) the Under 12 one, Gustavo Di Giannantonio the residual "mixed group".
As for the ASR08 statutes, the final placing table also defines the official team of the Association for next season: Claudio Miscia (captain), Gustavo Di Giannantonio, Benedetto Colarossi, Marco Miscia and, as a reserve, Fabrizio Castello (Newell's Old Boys). All the 5 also automatically qualify to the next Serie A, together with the 6th, Cosimo Muci (Lecce). All other players will have to play qualifying games after the Rosario Cup (October 25th) to get the 4 free places in the Serie A.
Next year, in order to have all willing players on the field, a second division, Serie B, will be organized as well.
San Marino campeon rosarino 2008Among guests of the match, there also were
journalists: San Marino-Boca Juniors (Paolo Ferrara) has been observed by Radio Corazón and the best spots were put on the air on next Sunday; and -as San Marino is the name of a quarter in town Funes, where Claudio Miscia
plays- an article celebrating the victory came out on Funes newspaper "La Verdad Funense". San Marino dominated the Serie A 2008, winning 22 matches and drawing 4, with no lost matches; it scored 69 goals (best attack) and only took 10 (best defence). Nevertheless, the greatest "goleada" was the 7-0 scored by Newell's Old Boys against Ascoli (Roberto Rosati) at the 22nd round.
Results, pictures, statistics, prizes awarded on the first Serie A Rosario, as well as many videos of goals scored, are published on the Association's
site: www.asr08.com.ar

8. Belgian league kick-off
The belgian league for teams starts this saturday in Grimbergen, near Brussels. Last year 16 teams were competiting (9 in division 1, 7 in division 2). Magic Team Tournai, relegated in division 1, decided not to field a team anymore but three new teams joined the league: SC Stembert 3, SC Flanders 2 and SC Verviers 2. Therefore there will be 2 divisions of 9 teams. The league will be played in 4 days: Grimbergen (October 18), Verviers (November 15), Templeuve (January 17) and Brussels (March 21).
SC Charleroi remains one of the top favorites for the title but AS Hennuyer, Stembert and Rochefort will be strong outsiders.
The field in Division 1: Stembert, Charleroi, Verviers, Templeuve, Rochefort, AS Hennuyer, SC Flanders, Temploux, Brussels SC.
The field in Division 2: Stembert B, Charleroi B, Verviers B, Jambes, Rochefort B, Stembert C, SC Flanders B, Temploux B, Brussels SC B.

1. Europa Cup for clubs
Black and Blue Pisa make the double: 24 teams competed in this year's europa Cup in Oldham, England. If many surprises happened over the week-end, the issue of the week-end was not really surprising as the boys from Pisa (Italy) lifted the trophy for the second time in a row. The Italians beat the spanish team of Real Murcia on a clear 3-1 in the final.
Semi-finalists were rather unexpected teams. Bologna lost to Pisa while the Belgians of SC Stembert lost in the sudden death to Real Murcia. More details are available from the FISTF blog and the tournament website.

2. Maltese season kicks-off
The first tournament of the maltese season took place last week with 28 players taking part. 13 players were competing in the open category and int he semi-finals, Mark Gauci beat Massimo Cremona on a easy 3-0 while Hansel Mallia beat Charles Aquilina (2-0). In the final, Gauci took the best on Mallia and won the game (2-0). Other winners were Angelo Borg (U19), Darren Bezzina (U15) and Joe Mifsud (veterans).

The 2008 Golden Spike Invitational was retained by the 2007 Champion, Eric Garza. The tournament had 6 players, 4 from BUSL95 and 2 from Utah Mother Flickers. Garza defeated BUSL95 teammate Lenny Foster 4-3 on shots in the final after a 2-2 tie in regulation. Both Garza and Foster topped their groups going into the semifinals. BUSL95's Jonathan Smith and Eddy McLane bowed out in the semifinals, with Utah MF's Brian and Paul Barnes both failing to make it out of the group stage.

5. Japan first tournament soon?
Kenzo Koi, our contact person in Japan, is thinking about organizing a first tournament in Yokohama. Interested players can drop him a line at www.asr08.com.ar

7. Finland: Alcatraz-tournament in periphery (by Kari Hakkarainen) One of our Finnish Championship ranking -tournaments (with FISTF-rules) was held in an rather exotic place, about 300 km north from Helsinki in a small village called Naaraji. The venue was located in the middle of forest right next to a beautiful lake - and the local jailhouse. Only 8 players participated, but we had some exiciting games and good time anyhow. After the games we went to sauna, swam in the 5 celsius degree water, have some drinks and sang some karaoke. Finnish madness ? Probably. No criminals were involved and we didn't see any jailbreaks. Maybe next time The final was between Sisu TFC players: Teemu Sihvola - Juho Sihvola 5-1 Full results: http://www.subu.fi/smkisat/SM-ranking_FISTF_251008.htm
Our next tournament with FISTF-rules will be on 15th of November. Then we'll decide who will be the Finnish champion 2008

8. Northern Ireland: Dunmurry National Open (by Eoin Adams) The 2008 Dunmurry Open will take place in the Kings Way Church, Kingsway, Dunmurry on Saturday 22nd November. (10.00am flickoff). Categories: Youth (U19), Open, Veteran.

3. Italian, Belgian and Dutch share the trophies in Brussels (by Philippe
Hipfinger)
Valéry Dejardin strikes again at the GP of Brussels The GP of Brussels was played last weekend in the hall of honour of King Baudouin Stadium and the organizers knew that this prestigious venue could attract the medias.  A few invitations were sent to them and the least we can say, is that the result of these efforts paid off! The top news was the presence of Luc Matton, well known sport reporter of RTL Tvi on the Saturday! Their report with interview of Laurent Coucke and Valery Dejardin was broadcasted on the 19h00 news which is seen by hundreds of thousand of people!  On Sunday the local flemish TV Brussel was also present and RTBF Radio also covered the event by making interviews of Franz and Philippe Hipfinger as well as Laurent Coucke. In the newspaper "La Capitale" a few articles could be found as well!

Well, this was for the press coverage, but a GP was also played on both days, and on Saturday the team of Stella Artois Milano was the best among the 26 registered ones! The Italians beat in the final the number One ranked team in the World, the Austrians of TFC Mattersburg.  SC Charleroi and the Torino Warriors were the semi-finalists!   On Sunday, the individual competition was played and 153 players showed up!  In the Open Category, the first surprise was the elimination of Gil Delogne as early as in the last 32. Gil who expected to achieve a great result in his hometown club was very disappointed to lose against ex teammate Robbert Lenz.
Robbert Lenz lost finally in the quarters to Sami Targui and in the semi final 3 belgian players were present!  Christophe Dheur from SC Stembert played a huge match at this stage and knocked out World Champion Eric Verhagen!  Valery Dejardin beat the winner of the Major of Mons, Sami Targui in the other semi final and went on to beat "titeuf" in the final.
Valery Dejardin won already his third FISTF tournament of the new season!
At the Masters of Madrid in less than 2 weeks, he will certainly be one of the man to watch! In the Veteran Category, World Champion Martijn Bom kept his title and beat the Maltese Jo Mifsud in the final! For the Maltese player, it was his first ever participation in a Veteran Competition!
Frédéric Perdaens, the World Ranking Officer, made a come back after a break of 3 years and a half and accomplished a great result by reaching the quarter final in such a strong competition!  In the U19 competition, the 2 favourites reached the final and Jerrel Van Keimpema beat German Dominik Schulz 2-1.  The young Dutch from Mvv Rijnmond showed again that he is one of the player who improved the most in the recent year.  In the U15 Category, it was a all italian final between the 2 players from Lazio Roma, and Diego Tagliaferri defeated Micael Caviglia. And in the Ladies, it was a all belgian final, dominated by Elodie Bertholet from Templeuve against Magali Doumont from SC Temploux!
To be noted that even if Brussels seems to be a popular tournament, it won't be in the FISTF calender in 2009-2010.

4. A moment of full emotion during the GP of Brussels (by Philippe
Hipfinger)
To celebrate its 40 years of existence, the club of Brussels SC was looking to make something special. After mature consideration, the best thing the club could do, was to honour Franz Hipfinger. Franz discovered the subbuteo thanks to his best friend Jean-Pierre Dejoncker in 1960. From that moment on, he never stopped to play but mostly never stop to organize competitions, write reports and revues, look for new players,...Franz Hipfinger has been president of the belgian Federation during many years and was also partof the FISTF Board in its early days. It was time to pay tribute for all his hardwork during almost a half of century! Frédéric Perdaens, who was member of the Brussels SC a long time ago, was invited to give this hommage to Franz and gave him the cup of the fair-play and a travel voucher for his next holidays as a well deserved surprised present!

9. USA: California State Championship (by Simon Hutchinson) Sunday was the second annual California State Championship, hosted by the Southern California Subbuteo Club.  Kevin Nieman reached his first major final beating second seed, Steve Tucker, in the semi final.  Wayne Smith beat Kevin in the final to retain the title he won last year. Edward Nathan won the Mission Trophy, with Dominic Hutchinson losing in the final for the second year in a row. The Under 19 Sierra Trophy final was a repeat of last year's final. This year Adam Carlson beat Dominic Hutchinson by a single goal, in the best game these two players have played against each other.

3. Italian cup (from www.subbuteonews.com) The club of ACS Perugia (Ita) was the teams event winner in Chianciano Terme where in the final match beat Reggiana (Ita) with close score 2-1
(7-7 goals). Perugia has now 5 trophies of Coppa Italia. At open category, Saverio Bari (Reggio Emilia) lift the trophy for second time in his career, where in final he beat the «veteran» Stefano De Francesco (Perugia).

5. Germany: Herbstcup 2008
10 players attended this tournament held last week-end. Thomas Winkler (BSC
Schwalbach) beat Rainer Vogt (BSC Schwalbach) 3-1 in the final.

6. England: Salisbury Open
England captain Dave Pawsey won the Salisbury Open on Sunday 16th November, which was making a welcome return to the English circuit and expertly organised by Cyril Mitchener. Eleven players took part, and everyone got plenty of competitive games, as is always the theme of the English circuit events. The players were split into groups of 6 and 5. The final was the tournament favourite Pawsey against more surprising finalist Richard Pepper. Pawsey took a deathgrip on the match with a 3-0 lead before Pepper scored a late consolation goal, Pawsey winning 3-1, the first goal he had conceded all day!

7. A Future in Ontario
The small town of Frankford (Ontario) will hold the 2nd FISTF tournament of the canadian circuit this season. The event will be held on December 19.
Interested players can contact Steve Whitehead at http://home.cogeco.ca/~romanada/Eomsl/Eomsl_main.htm

8. Finland: Marko Karhunen is the new champion in Finland 20 players competed in the national championship held in Porvoo (50 km East of Helsinki), which is a rather new city in the national table football map. Int he game for the third place, Juho Sihvola defeated Jani Mustonen. 4 other players competed in the very first national championship for veterans. Kari Hakkarainen managed to win the title. Full results are available at http://www.subu.fi/smkisat/SM2008_FISTF_151108.htm

9. Belgium: AS Hennuyer on top of the belgian league Many surprises occured in the second day of the belgian league, held last saturday in Verviers. The team of Charleroi showed up with only 3 players and lost the top game of the day again Stembert. Stembert could have taken a good option for the title but they lost against AS Hennuyer in another top game. The ASH team had a great time with individual victories of Delphine Dieudonné on Christophe Dheur, Fabian Brau on David Fraikin and Nathan Dupont on Sébastien Scheen. Finally, after 8 games, AS Hennuyer is now on top of the table with 19 points while Charleroi and Stembert have 17, Rochefort 14, Brussels and Verviers 11, Temploux 8, SC Flanders 3 and Templeuve 0.
In division 2, Rochefort B didn't manage to keep the leadership. The team from the South of Belgium lost 2 of their 4 games (against Stembert B and Temploux B) and SC Stembert B is now leading the table with 21 points while Temploux B has 17, Charleroi B and Rochefort B 16, Brussels B 10, Stembert C and Jambes 9, SC Flanders B 3 and SC Verviers B 0.

1. FISTF Masters in Madrid
The 6th FISTF World Masters tournament was held last week-end in Madrid (Spain). 12 of the world's top players were competing in a great spirit and with a lot of positive energy. Many games were close and in the group stage, nobody really managed to be on top. Both Massimiliano nastasi and Simone Berteli came on top of their groups with 9 points (2 wins and 2
draws) while Valéry Dejardin, 3rd of group, was out of the event without having lost any single game. In the semi-finals, Bertelli beat Carlos Flores on shots after a 0-0 draw while Massimiliano nastasi beat current world number 1 Eric Verhagen on a clear 7-3. In the final, Nastasi and Bertelli offered a great show to all spectators. Nastasi finali won his 2nd title in the Masters after beating Bertelli 3-2.

FISTF would like to thank organiser Piero Capponi for managing to stage a beautiful tournament and to attract a lot of medias. We hope that the Masters will help the spanish association to recruit many more players.

2. Total soccer launch and table football marathon The Masters in Madrid was not only a tournament for 12 players of the world's elite. Piero Capponi's company was also launching a new table football game called "Total soccer". Total soccer is sold under licence of Real Madrid and will therefore attract the attention of many football fans.
Hopefully there will be thousands of new players in Spain in the next few months. As a big surprise for the event, 2 of the Real Madrid players (one of them was Michel Salgado) were present for the ceremony, attracting the attention of the medias.

Before the Masters tournament, Total Soccer organized a very big table football marathon with 4 top spanish players playing a game for 48 hours non-stop. Juan Carlos Granados (150 goals), Miguel Angel Heredia (117), José Ros (129) and Miguel Angel Lopez (244) scored more than 600 goals in
48 hours. Once again, congratulations to all involved players and Piero Capponi for organising such a great event.

3. Challenger of Frameries
28 players competed in the Challenger of Frameries (Belgium). Johnny Beaufays (SC Flanders) took an easy win and became the first player to win
2 Challengers. He beat Richard Boulanger (SC Stembert) in the final. All categories were played as there were a lot of young players and winners were as follows: Sabria Bouzakhti (ladies), Patrick Peltier (veterans), David Vantassel (U19), Jérôme Vandevenne (U15), Kenny De Schuyteneer (U12) and AS Hennuyer B (teams).

4. Scotland: A future player is born
Thomas Anthony Robert Wright was born last week to proud parents Max and Susan Wright. Mother and Son are doing well. FISTF would like to send their best wishes to the happy family!

5. Greece: Greek league for clubs (by Chris Aggelinas) The first day of the greek league was played last week-end. We had 10 teams from 8 clubs. That means that we have 2 "B" teams. This is happening for the last time. For the season 2009-10, it is going to be something very familiar with the Belgian model. 10 teams meet each other twice in three different days. Day 1 each team played 6 times, refereed 3 times and rested
1 round. A small conclusion is that Atlas, Falcons and Roligans have the absolute record 6 games, 6 wins and leading the race with 18 points. The rest of the teams are AEK (9), Athens Kickers (9), Mirmidones (4) and with
2 teams Highlanders (4 points and 1 point) and Lions (6 points and 0).

6. France: Beauzelle GP
Jean-Marie Amberny (Issy) won the first "Grand Prix" of the french GP circuit. The event was held in Beauzelle, near Toulouse, and attracted around 30 players from all around France. Amberny beat teamate Emmanuel Gorgette in the final while Thomas Ponté (also from Issy) was third.

7. Italy: Christmas tournament in Milan
The Christmas cup will be held in Milan soon. It's one of the oldest tournaments ever. Who are going to be the successor of Stefano De Francesco
(2007 winner) and Pisa (2007 team winner)?

1. Grand Prix of Berlin
63 players rom 8 countries competed in the FISTF Grand Prix of germany in Berlin. Günther Bamberzky (from TSC Wiener Neustadt, Austria) was on fire as he managed to win three titles. Bamberzky won the Open final against Wolfgang Leitner but he also won the veterans final against Robbert Thoen.
Bamberzky and his teamates of TSC Wiener Neustadt also won the team event after a close final against TSC Stella Artois Milano. In the other categories, the winners were Björn Kegenbein (U19), Marcel Kwiatkowski (U15), Giuditta Lo Cascio (Ladies) and Giannis Vlassopoulos (U12).

2. Third International Open of Buenos Aires (by Philippe Hipfinger) Claudio Miscia, the man of the weekend !
The third International Open of the Argentinian Capital was played this weekend in an excellent spirit of friendship and
16 participants took part in the event. The good news is that the Buenos Aires Table Soccer Club managed to find a new place in a sport club of the Capital where different sports and activities are practiced.
During the tournament, many spectators came to discover the game and a pitch was at the disposal of the people who wanted to try the game !
Hopefully, some of them will join the BATS soon.  As for the competition, in the Open Category, Philippe Hipfinger from Brussels SC managed to win his third consecutive title in Buenos Aires by beating in the final the number One Argentinian player, Patricio Echevarietta from the local club of the BATS. It was a close a final with a final score of 2-0 for the Belgian player. Anyway, the big upset of the weekend was the defeat of Philippe in the group stage where he was beaten by the Italian player from AS Rosario, Claudio Miscia 1-0.  Claudio eventually reached the semi final in Open and also won on Sunday the Veteran Category played only by four players.
Another news is that Vincenzo Tirocchi, an Italian currently based in the city of Cordoba in Argentina will move to Montevideo at the end of the year. He will try with his familly to launch a first club in Uruguay and maybe organize a first FISTF event in this country next year.

3. First Gibraltar Open (report by Keith Sheriff) The first Gibraltar table soccer FITSF (Federation International Table Soccer Federation) approved Open tournament was held for the first time in Gibraltar on the 29th and 30th November at the Central Hall. A total of 24 players battled it out in four different events, the U12, Veterans, Teams played on the Saturday and the main event the Open which was held on Sunday.
Emilio Murciano (Real Murcia) was victorious beating his team mate Juan Carlos Granados (Real Murcia) in the final on a penalty shoot-out (3–2) after a tantalising but exciting (0–0) draw. 24 players of all ages competed in this tournament including four foreign players: 3 from Murcia (Real Murcia) while Steve Hawkins represented the English club English Premier League (EPL). The highlight of this competition no doubt centred on the match that drew the competitions oldest player, 49 year old Peter Sardeńa and the youngest 10 year old Kyle Tellez, a difference of almost 40 years! The other highlight was no doubt the match between local players Guy Palmer and John Field. John dominated the first half leading (3–1) but in the second Guy battled back pulling a goal back with a superb running ball only to see John respond with another traditional John Field special to lead (4–2). However with time running out Guy decided to launch himself in an all out attack and with two well atken goals managed to draw the match with less than two minutes to go (4–4). The ten minute extra time period was clearly dominated by Guy Palmer who finally managed to squeeze the ball past John Field's defence from a well taken corner. (5–4) the final score.
In the semis, Juan Carlos Granados beat Steve Hawkins (1-0) while Emilio Murciano beat local player Guy Palmer (4-2). In the final, Murciano won on penalty shots after a scoreless match. Granados also won the veterans tournament while Kyle Tellez won the U12 section. Finally, Real Murcia came on top of the team event after three wins in the group stage.
The event was inaugurated by a friendly international between Gibraltar and Spain held at St. Anne's Main Hall on the Friday evening. Gibraltar 'A'
drew 2-2 with Spain in the first round of matches in which four players from each side play against each other on different tables and their points and scores combine. Gibraltar 'B' lost 3-1 against Spain in the second round of matches.
Overall the event was characterised throughout by the sporting nature in which the games were held. The camaraderie between the players was superb with the four foreign players expressing their admiration for the hospitality and friendly nature of the tournament. The GTSA would like to thank Juan Carlos Granados from Real Murcia FC for his expertise and assistance throughout the tournament in technical points and rule changes.
Juan Carlos is a dear friend of this Association and it must be mentioned that he personally delivered and supported the GTSA's application for full membership to FITSF world governing body.
Our thanks must also go to our sponsors; Gibtelecom, D & H Ceramics, Valmar Pharmacy, Monteverde & Sons Ltd, Autosport, Redwood and the International Police Association (IPA) for their individual generous contributions. The GTSA would also like to express their sincere and deeply appreciated thanks to the Hon. Minister for Sport and Leisure Mr. Edwin Reyes for his superb support and assistance throughout particularly in his commitment for Government to offer to supply the materials to build the eight superb pitches and support boxes for the event free of charge. The GTSA would like to also thank and congratulate the staff and apprentices of the Gibraltar Training Centre for the superb workmanship in designing and assembling of the pitch frames and boxes. Without all of the above this tournament would not have been possible.
Finally I would like to thank my committee, Manolo Martinez, Alan Crisp, Peter Sardeńa, Guy Palmer, Lawrence Alvarez, Gerard Laguea and everyone else who contributed in any way in ensuring the Gibraltar's first international Open competition was a complete success.

4. South African Open Championships (report by Clifford Graaff) The second South African Open was held on Sunday 30th November 2008 at Panorama Sports Club in Roodepoort. A very good field of 18 entrants had a truly great day which has been described as the best ever tournament yet on the South African circuit.
Current South African champion and number 1 seed, Clifford Graaff,  was beaten by Jason Kennedy in the quarter final by two goals to one after extra time. The other quarter finals all went to form with Sean Morgan defeating Shane Graaff by two goals to one. Reza Bodiat accounted for junior Richard Graaff by the only goal. Harold Silber beat his nephew and junior, Max Silber by the odd goal in five.
The semi finals saw Jason Kennedy continue his great form by defeating Reza Bodiat in a very tight game by one goal to nil. Sean Morgan and Harold Silber dished up the most exciting game of the tournament which was only concluded on penalty flicks after both players shared a six-goal thriller in normal time. Extra time could also not break the deadlock. Sean proved to have nerves of steel by equalising in the last minute of normal time after being down by three goals to two. He also had to convert his las penalty flick to force a second round of penalty flicks. The final saw Jason Kennedy, who must be the most improved player this year in South Africa, against favourite Sean Morgan. The final proved to be a very tight affair with Sean mounting the early pressure which paid off when he scored the opening goal after great work down his left flank. Jason tried to respond but Sean's defence proved to be resilient and he caught Jason on a counter attack after Jason left a gaping hole in the middle of his defence and slotted his second goal. This prompted Jason onto the attack and a brilliant through ball from his own half and a  direct flick saw the ball canon into the top corner of the net. This goal has been described as the best goal ever seen in a local tournament and also rightly earned Jason a special prize for goal of the day at the prize giving. The second half started off at a cracking pace with both players trying to seize the iniative. Sean then capitalized on a error by Jason and slotted his third goal after an intricate and precise movement emanating from his own half.
Jaso countered almost immediately and lay siege to Sean's goal. The pressure paid off just before full time when a sublime through ball from just outside the shooting area and a neat one-two saw Jason score his second goal much to the delight of a big and boisterous crowd. Jason tried for the equaliser, however Sean absorbed the pressure and deservedly secured his first FISTF title. By winning the tournament Sean has also taken over the number one ranking in South Africa.
In the junior final Yasser Bodiat accounted for his older brother in a tense game with the winning goal being scored midway through the second half. This is also the first FISTF title that Yasser has captured and he completed a great day by accounting for both junior favourites in the semi and final - well done !!!!!

The South African Table Football Association is also proud to announce that we now have a new permanent home base for all future tournaments - namely Panorama Sports Club.  Panorama Sports Club was found in 1986 and boasts arguably the biggest soccer section for both junior and senior players with almost 600 registered soccer players in Johannesburg. The Johannesburg Table Football Club will now re-locate to Panorama Sports Club and affiliate to the main club as an independent sub-club. During the course of the tournament there were many interested spectators and the final was witnessed by the biggest ever crowd for a table football event in South Africa. Many people were re-acquainted with the game and membership at our forthcoming club evenings looks set to increase dramatically. Once again commemorative soccer trophies were awarded to all our juniors with the following two special awards also being made :
Goal of the Tournament : Jason Kennedy (in the final vs Sean Morgan) Chairman/Janus Gersie Award : Harold Silber (encompassing the spirit of table football).

5. FISTF.com calendar page
The calendar page of FISTF.com web site is now updated! Sorry for the delay but we are thinking that we have at the moment a life-time hi-quality result (and technically is easy for updates). The FISTF official calendar URL is http://www.fistf.com/calendar.htm

6. One more tournament in Cyprus
There will be a Challenger on the 21st of December. The contact person for the tournament is George Zangylos. His email is http://www.ctp-gallery.co.uk/FISTF2008/

8. Scotland: the Clairbois Cup
Congratulations to Dave Baxter on his 2nd circuit event win of the season.
Dave won his four games to finish top of the swiss system ladder. 13 players were competing and Stephen Bennett is 2nd (9 points). Then come Gareth Christie, Jim Law and Richard Pepper with 7 points.

9. Northern Ireland: Dunmurry National Open (by Eoin Adams) It was a good day for Kenny Beggs, who won both the Open and Veteran Finals against Gary Moore and Stephen Rodgers respectively. Peter Morrison beat John Hughes in the Under-19 Final and was runner-up to Mark Farrell in the Plate.
The Open was a tough event and Beggs was made to work hard for the title.
The No.1 seed was fortunate to get through his group, following a 1-1 draw with Stephen Rodgers and a 0-0 draw with Mark Farrell. Rodgers and Farrell also drew 1-1 with each other, which left all three players on two points and zero goal-difference. Rodgers topped the group, having scored more goals but Beggs and Farrell were equal and so required a shoot-out to determine who qualified in 2nd spot. After five shots each, they were still level at 3-3 but Farrell missed his first sudden-death shot and Beggs scored his to advance to the quarter-final where he would meet John Moore.
The pressure was immediately on Beggs again, as Mooretook an early lead but Beggs equalised in the 2nd half and scored a golden-goal in extra time. A single goal was enough to beat Joe McRoberts in the semi-final, while the Final was a similar story, with a goal in the first minute clinching a 1-0 victory against Gary Moore.
The tournament produced some interesting matches. In Group B, No.2 seed, Barry Spence failed to qualify, following a 0-0 draw with Eoin Adams and a
2-3 defeat to Joe McRoberts. Adams qualified with another 0-0 draw against McRoberts but was involved in the best match of the day in his quarter-final against Gary Moore. He led 3-2 with less than a minute remaining but Moore equalised and went on to score the golden-goal to win
4-3 after extra-time.
Stephen Rodgers will also be pleased with his performance, reaching the Open semi-final and the Veteran Final.
The day was rounded off with an International Friendly between Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, which the Southern lads won 2-1, giving them their first victory over the North since the 2004 UK & Ireland Internationals in Preston.
Thanks to everyone for taking part, and also to Laura, for taking photos for the website, and helping me co-ordinate the fixtures, not an easy job considering the Dublin lads turned up 3 hours later than expected, due to traffic jams caused by Christmas shoppers.

10. ETF archives
Hello to all, as you probably know, I spent a lot of time in the last few months to collect the archives of the FISTF tournaments played since 1993.
After a few months of researches, I managed to find many interesting datas and I compiled quite a lot of files (you can see them from www.subbuteonews.com). Right now, my italian friend Gianbattista Fontanella has encouraged me to compile a file with the ETF archives. We think it's very important to compile some results so that they won't be lost in the future. After all, ETF was the basic of FISTF. Gianbattista sent me some stuff from the 60's and 70's and now we're going to try to find more. If you have any idea how to help, you can get a copy of the first ETF archives file, which is a first draft of our work. We'd be more than happy to hear from you. Sometimes, some small corrections can help (like missing first names or countries). Well, if you can help, we'd be very grateful.
Please note that once the ETF files are done, we'll start a new project with the FISA events.
The full results of theEuropean championships 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 are already compiled. If you have more results, you cans end them by e-mail or by fax at ++32-56-488742.

6. Argentina becomes FISTF full member
A good surprise came for Christmas time in the FISTF community. The argentinian association decided to join FISTF as a full member nation. The full membership status of the association will allow Argentina to run a Grand Prix in Rosario in May 2009 and plans are under way to organize a national championship, which would take place in Rosario in March.

7. FISA and ETF results
The two new books edited by the FISTF department of archives are under way.
We are collecting the results of the old FISA and ETF championships. For the ETF results, we are now looking for the full results of the European championships 1978 to 1989 as well as the european championships for nations 1967, 1968, 1969, 1983, 1987 and 1991.
For the FISA results, we look the details of the World Cup 1970, 1974 (group stage only) and the results of the European championships 1996 held in London. Thanks for your help. If you want a copy of the drafts, don't hesitate to ask.

First of all, FISTF would like to wish you the best wishes for the end of the year. We hope that the Christmas time will be a period of peace for you and your family.

1. 2008, a good year for FISTF
For several reasons, 2008 was a good year for FISTF. Our association managed to increase the number of active players on the international scene and tournaments were held for the first time in new countries. Gibraltar and Cyprus were the new hosts of FISTF tournaments in the last season, bringing the total of host nations to 28 (*). Japan will become the 29th country to host a tournament in January and therefore the future of FISTF looks promising. We now hope to attract more nations and hopefully our contacts in Uruguay, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Israël and Switzerland will be positive. We also hope to see the come-back of tournaments in Ireland and Australia in the near future.

As for the quality of tournaments, we also have reasons to be happy. The standards of organisation are increasing and superb events were held in several places. Tournaments in the USA, Argentina, Italy and Spain had improved standards and events in Finland, Norway and Belgium (the Brussels
GP) had also very high standards. The World Cup in Austria attracted a lot of players from 18 different countries and first North American continental cup was held in Washington, DC. Also, the FISTF Masters in Madrid was successful with a brilliant organisation by Piero Capponi who managed to involve some of the Real Madrid players for the tournament.

2009 will also be full of surprises as the South African association has plans to host the first African Nations Cup in Johannesburg and the World Cup in the Netherlands is also expected to beat all records of participation.

The quality of material has also been improved over the last few months.
Zeugo, Soccer 3D, Stefan Corda, Flickmaster, Total Soccer, Extreme Works,... are bringing a lot of great products to improve the quality of the game. The arrival of new manufacturers is a very good thing for the game. Now we hope that suppliers will be able to extend the availability of material in the future so that products will not only be available via internet.

Finally, the job of the FISTF Board has not been easy in 2008. We wasted a lot of time an energy to try to solve the problems of the Greek association and we also lost or webmaster a few weeks ago. Plans are under way to re-launch a new FISTF website in the next few days. For 2009, we also hope to work on the simplification of some playing rules, to help the job of the referees and to find a solution for the problems of goalkeepers.

FISTF is also looking for the help of some people interested to contribute to the development of our association, not only to work for the marketing department and the communication department but also to promote table football at local level and to organize tournaments. If you are interested, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Until then, I wish you a successful year 2009 full of satisfaction and a lot of great moments in table football.

Vincent Coppenolle
FISTF president

(*): the 28 nations to host tournaments were Argentina , Australia , Autria, Belgium, Canada , Cyprus, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Spain, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Scotland, Singapore, the USA, Wales.

2. Changes in the FISTF calendar
There are some changes in the FISTF calendar. Some belgian events have now been moved.
- the Templeuve Satellites will be held on July 11 & 12 (instead of 18 & 19);
- there will be a Future in Meslin-l'Evêque on July 19;
- there will be a Challenger in Brussels on August 2.

3. Italy: Lazio on TV
There is an interview of some LAZIO ROMA players on Youtube. Check the link at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVWpXpg0kQg

4. Table Football WebTV
Stefano Montecchiesi has finally started his project of a WebTV about Table Football/Subbuteo. The website will start on the first of January. Stefano collected several interviews to important Italian persons of the Table Football world such as Marco DeAngelis, Renzo Frignani, Stefano Buzzi, Gianluca Galeazzi, etc. He will publish on my website report on the tournaments, tips and techniques, rules, etc.
The url is www.miomovie.it and it will be online on the 1st of January.
