New old school link 7. Suppliers of material 8. FISTF calendar 9. Other tournaments 10. Contact person in your country

1. Europa Cup 2007: Pisa are the champions (By Heinz Eder) After last year's italian final in Lisbon between Napoli and Perugia, only one team from Italy managed to reach the final, but the winner is still from Italy, after BLACK & BLUE Pisa won a close match against TFC MATTERSBURG.
After the groups were finished without any big surprises (all the big clubs went through the groups to the round of the last 16), in the first knockout stage already the first surprises happened. Stella Artois Milano managed to beat last year's finalist Perugia and San Siro had a close match against austrian team from Royal 78 Kaisermühlen, which they won in the end on goal difference.
There were also some other close games in that round, like Hennuyer against Chaleroi or Stembert against Roligans, both decided in sudden death, first for Hennuyer, second for Roligans.
In the quarterfinal the next surprise happened, because the cupholder said good bye after a tie against San Siro Worthing Fivestar, but again after the round of last 16 the goal difference was better for San Siro. To show how close this tournament was in this quarter final 3 out of 4 matches were only decided on goal difference. Mattersburg won against Falcons from Greece, Stella Artois Milano beat Hennuyer on goal difference too.
In half final San Siro had to play against Pisa and Mattersburg had to beat Stella Artois Milano to reach the final. In the end Pisa could manage it to win clearly against San Siro and Mattersburg won again on goal difference.
The final was very close too, but in the end Pisa managed it to win this game and take to trophy to Italy again.
Generally it was a good Europa Cup, the organization was good and the weather in Athens also was very nice with about 20°.

2. Europa Cup 2007 (by Chris Aggelinas)
The second more important tournament of the season (the first one is always the WC) the Europa cup for clubs, was played the weekend 27-28 of October in Athens.
24 teams from 11 counties participated to the 15th edition of the EC and the big winner were the Italians of Black and Blue Pisa. The Bertellis and Pochesci brothers alongside Stefano Capossela lift the trophy to the Athenaeum sky. They had a tremendous weekend as they won all their 9 games to their way to heaven. In the final they beat the Austrians of Mattesburg in a game that a single goal could turned everything up side down.
San Siro and Stella Artois Milano reached the semifinals. The final standing is the following:
      1.    Black & Blue Granduc. Pisa    ITA
      2.    TFC Mattersburg   AUT
      3.    San Siro Worthing 5 Star      ENG

In the name of the organization committee I want to congratulate all the players that participated in the tournament and I wish that they had a really nice weekend in Athens. We did the best we could and we wish that everybody would have something nice to remember from the tournament.
Many thanks to all these people that they helped in order to succeed this result.

3. Europa Cup 2008
Next year's Europa cup will be held in England and the tournament website is already available at http://www.fistf.eu/europacup2008/

4. A big agenda for this week-end
This week-end not less than five tournaments are going to take place. There will be a great turnout as always in Dumfries for the Open of Scotland but the other events will be played in some exotic countries.
The Open of Buenos Aires will be played for the first time by representatives from three local clubs. The guys from Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata and Rosario will struggle to beat top favorite Philippe Hipfinger from Belgium.
The Challenger in Johannesburg will be the second tournament ever organized in South Africa while the Future and Challenger in Frameries (Belgium) will be played by a big majority of young players. Good luck to all.

1. Open of Dumfries
33 players competed in last week's FISTF Open of Dumfries (Scotland). The San Siro guys dominated the competition as they won the team event on saturday after they beat EPL in the final (3-1) while Chris Thomas beat Eric Verhagen on sunday in the Open final. Phil Redman (veterans) and Susan Wright (ladies) took the honors in the other categories.

2. Open of Buenos Aires (by Philippe Hipfinger) "El segundo Abierto de Argentina" was played on Saturday 3 November in Buenos Aires. Philippe Hipfinger from Brussels SC travelled again to the most European city of South America to defend and keep his title. This time, he beat Fernando Soneira in the final, after having beaten him in the groups and in the semi-final last year. 10 players took part in the event as last year, but this time for 3 different clubs, as there are now growing activities in Mar del Plata and Rosario. It is nice to see some development here in Argentina and if some people did not have to work or had personal problems, we could have had between 16 to 20 players taking part in the event.

3. Future of Frameries
Only 19 players attended the first FISTF Future tournament of the season.
There was no surprise for the decision of the winner as Philippe Mairesse, a former number 1, took the open title after he beat Laurent Spiroux in the final. Jérémie Gosset (U19), Jérôme Vandevenne (U15), Patrick Peltier
(veterans) and Matthias Mastroianni (U12) took the other titles.

4. Challenger of Frameries
Another nice tournament and a first victory in the Open category for Kevin Dröhsler (Templeuve United). Kevin, who was still a U19 player last season, beat Michaël Dupret (Tournai) in the final (5-4) while Jérôme Heyvaert and Ludovic Migeot, both from Charleroi), lost in the semis. Jérémie Gosset (U19), Yvan Pichuèque (U15) and Laurent Spiroux (Veterans) won the other titles.

5. Challenger of Johannesburg (by Clifford Graaff) Once again a highly successful and enjoyable Table Football Tournament namely : Johannesburg Challenger was held last Sunday (4 November 2007) at Marks Park just outside the Johannesburg central business district.
The tournament showcased the skills and talents of the South African players and the final proved to be a perfect advert for the growing game of table football in this wonderful country which recently celebrated the crowning glory of the mighty Springboks in the Rugby World Cup Final.
Clifford Graaff made the most of his opportunities and edged out his arch rival, Sean Morgan, by a single goal in a seven goal thriller.
The game started off at a sedate pace whereby both players were careful not to make any mistakes. After the initial slow start the game exploded into action when Clifford capitalized on a mistake by Sean and after a series of neat passes the first goal  was scored which proved to be a catalyst for what has been described as one of the most competitive and exciting games of the season.
Referee Reza Bodiat had to be up with play at all times as the tempo and intensity of the game was something new, unique and refreshing to the fledgling SATFA.
This early setback spurred Sean into action and he took the initiative and gained complete control of the first half and scored two goals without reply – the second coming from a defense splitting pass and perfectly chipping the goalkeeper from just inside the shooting area.
Clifford started the second half in a determined fashion and equalized with a classy shot from an acute angle. Sean counteracted immediately and took the lead once again with some immaculate ball control building up from the halfway line. Clifford responded well and in a tense final five minutes he equalized from a deflected free-kick just outside Sean's penalty area. With nothing separating the two players Clifford's nerve held and with some tight passing from midfield he managed to slot the winner with two minutes remaining.
Sean then through everything at his opponent, and in the final moments should've equalized on two occasions. However some great defending and a rather fortunate deflection from the resultant corner, saw a great shot from Sean bounce over the goals and into safety and thus ending a truly epic encounter and handing Clifford his second FISTF title of 2007.
Both players and officials conceded that the result could've gone either way as there was very little to separate the two finalists.
Both players are extremely keen to test their game against the FISTF heavyweights and hopefully this will present itself in the near future.

6. World Cup 2009
FISTF is very happy to confirm that the FISTF World Cup 2009 will be held in the Netherlands. Robbert Thoen and Marco de Bruin will be the main organizers for what is expected to be an excellent tournament. The date and the venue of the world cup will be announced as soon as possible.

7. Europa Cup 2008
The FISTF Europa Cup for clubs will be held in Oldham, England in the last week-end of october (october 25-26, 2008).
The contact person for the tournament is Alan Collins (http://www.manchestergp.tfhost.com

9. An english player in Singapore
Dave Butler from England has just updated his website. Following his tour of South America in 2005 he has just come back from Singapore, where he met up with Christopher Soh. As in South America, he and his lovely wife Anthea were incredibly hospitable and friendly with Dave. Their match was decided by the final flick of the game! There are reports on the club's and Christopher's club's websites:

12. Italy: Open of Bergamo (by Riccardo Schito) The last week (3 & 4 November), there was a national tournament in Bergamo.
It was the 10th edition of the tournament called "city of Bergamo." Nine teams on Saturday gave birth to an intense tournament and the final has been won by the Stella Artois against the Warriors Torino. Sunday 50 players took part and Stefano De Francesco (Perugia ACN) won the final against Efrem Intra (Stella Artois). Riccardo Schito (A. C. S. Bergamo) beat Massimo Conti (Reggiana) in the veterans final while Antonio De Francesco (ACS Perugia) took the U12 title and Valentina Bartolini (ACS
Perugia) won the ladies section.

13. USA: Maricopa Cup - Round 10 (by Kevin Nieman) On Sunday, November 4, 2007, Wayne Smith of Northridge, California scored four wins, one draw, and no losses in Round 10 of the "Maricopa Cup"
competition to solidify his dominance of the Southern California Subbuteo Club. Wearing his new, purple Osnabrück kit to match his newly-painted, purple-clad figures, Wayne was so dominant that he scored nearly double the goals that were scored by all other competitors combined. Simon Hutchinson of Simi Valley, California was the only SCSC player to face Wayne and come away with a draw. Also, Simon's son, Dominic, held the distinction of being the only player in Round 10 to actually score against Wayne. Finally, Round 10 served as a milestone for our own Kevin Nieman of Newbury Park, California as this day featured his 150th match with the SCSC. A full match report and photographs can be found on the SCSC's website at http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com

14. Subbuteo clubs twin (by Simon Hutchinson) The Southern California Subbuteo club is proud to announce that they are "twinning" with three other table soccer clubs:
- North East Table Football Club (NETFA) of Middlesborough, England
- West Coast Table Soccer Club (WCTSC) of Surrey, British Coumbia, Canada
- Singapore Lions Subbuteo Club (SLSC) of Singapore "This is an exciting opportunity for us to form relationships with these three dynamic clubs," said Simon Hutchinson of the SCSC.  "I think we all realize that for this sport to become more popular we need to think beyond our local areas.  It also formalizes some of the unofficial relationships we have with the members of these clubs"
The full story can be found on the SCSC's website at http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com

15. Belgium: happy birthday
The famous club of SC Temploux will celebrate it's 30th birthday on November 17. Well done to Benoit Jadot (www.fistf.eu The FISTF archives have also been updated with special finales about the history of the Europa Cup, of the Staellites, of the Challengers, of the Futures and the season file 2007-2008.

1. Grand Prix of Berlin
Saverio Bari (Reggio Emilia) won his first tournament of the season after he beat Eric Verhagen (San Siro) on shots in the final of last week-end's Grand Prix of Germany in Berlin. Giacomo Monica and Massimiliano Nastasi reached the semi-finals. In the other categories, Giacomo Monica beat Paolo Finardi to win the veterans title while Björn Kegenbein won both U15 and
U19 sections. Victoria Busing won the ladies tournament. In the International open for teams, San Siro Worthing Five Star won their 5th tournament of the season as they beat SMV Delft in the final.

2. Satellite of Truro
8 players took part in the FISTF Satellite of Truro, Nova Scozia, Canada.
The holder of the title, Gary Caven, didn't manage to win the 2nd edition of the tournament as he lost the final to Mark Meihuizen, the new president of the canadian association (2-3). Paul Caven and Ryan MacDonald reached the semi-finals.

3. International friendlies
The following international friendlies will be played at the Grand Prix of Austria next week:
Open Category: Austria - England & Austria - Italy Veteran Category: Austria - Germany

4. FISTF archives
Updated files are:

- Season 2007-08 and 1994-95 (Word)
- History of Satellites (Word)

5. Finnish championship
The Finnish championship tournament with the FISTF-rules was organized on 25th of november. 17 players participated and the finalists were big surprises. Last year's finalists, Sihvola and Mustonen were eliminated before semi-finals and even the Utrecht "professional" Marko Karhunen could reach only the 3rd place. Perhaps that is a sign that the level is rising, little by little.

Semi-finals : Marko Tiikkaja - Kari Hakkarainen 2-0 ; Marko Karhunen - Wille Hölttä 0-0*
Final: Marko Tiikkaja - Wille Hölttä 3-2

The finnish association also organized a Finnish championship tournament with the finnish rules. 11 players participated and the final was Petri Pekkala - Jani Mustonen 1-0.

6. Open of Issy
Please note the contact for the tournament held on February 2 & 3, 2008 are as follows:

Stefano Tagliaferi from Roma sends us the results of the "cadetti teams"
final between Fiamme Azzurre and Cagliari.
Fiamme Azzurre Roma - Cagliari 1*-1:

A. Scatamacchia - Migliavacca 2-2
C. Napolitano(*) - P. Licheri 1-2
R. Balzano(*)

The Primavera Teams tournament was won by the Napoli Fighters. Details are as follows:
Napoli Fighters - Lazio TFC 1*-1
A. Peluso - D. Tagliaferri 0-4
L. Battista - D. Napolitano 1-1
A. Feo - G. Tagliaferri 5-0

In the Open category "B", the correct result of the final was Emanuele Licheri - Saverio Bari 2-1

9. New FISTF forum
Due to several problems with the current forum (FISTF doesn't have the codes of the forum so we can't nominate new moderators and we can't accept new users), a new forum is now under construction and will be launched next week.

10. England: Leicester Open (by Jeremy Bradley) The Leicester Open took place on November 18, 2007. Eric Verhagen cut a swathe of destruction in the first ESTFA Circuit event of the season, held in Whetstone, Leicester. A dissappointingly low turnout of 12 participated.
Eric notched up 50 goals in 6 games to win his first ESTFA Circuit event, in the final he defeated organisor Jeremy Bradley 7-0! Simon Bryan won the plate 2-0 against The Lion of Ludesch AKA Richard Pepper. A good day was had by all with everyone receiving at least 5 games.

11. Canada: "Burnaby Mountain Madness".
It has been announced that Terry Berting from the Colebrook Subbuteo League will be hosting the next CSTFA tournament in the Region of British Columbia.  The tournament will be held at 2:00pm on December 16th, 2007.
For more details and to register for this tournament contact Terry at http://www.canadiansubbuteo.ca/index.php?pr=Events

12. Canada: 2007 Trent River Royal CSTF Tournament Bruno Biasini won the first tournament of the season in Ontario as he managed to beat Steve Whitehead on shots after a 1-1 draw in the final.

13. Belgium: Olivier Delogne wins
Olivier Delogne (Brussels) won the national tournament held in Mechelen last saturday. Players of the "C-category" only were allowed to take part.
In the final, Delogne beat Peter Pollaert (SC Flanders) 1-0. Glenn Pollaert won the U15 section. 9 Open players and 13 U15 players were taking part.

14. USA: SCSC Goes 'Cold Turkey' (by Simon Hutchinson) In the first of what we hope will be an annual post-Thanksgiving tournament Wayne Smith won the 'Cold Turkey 07' tournament beating Simon Hutchinson in the final. Dominic Hutchinson won the 'Giblets' with a victory over Adam Carlson in the other final. A link to a full report, the results and photographs from both finals can be found on the Southern California Subbuteo Club's website at http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com

1. Grand Prix of Austria in Vienna
81 players from 10 countries took part in last week-end's FISTF Grand Prix of Vienna. In the Open category, Simone Bertelli beat Eric Verhagen 2-1 to win the 3rd Grand Prix of his career (after Venice 96 and Trieste 96).
Kostas Triantafillou and Stefano De Francesco lost in the semis.
Alexander Haas beat Thomas Karnthaler to take the U19 title while Diego Tagliaferri from Italy beat Dominik Vanek from Czech Republic in the U15 final.
The veterans tournament was played by 20 played, which were dropped in four groups of 5 players. Erich Hinkelmann finally beat Michael Hasieber in the final (3-0). Valentina Bartolini from Italy won her first international title in the ladies section while the Italians of Black & Blue Pisa beat San Siro Worthing 5 Star in the final of the team event thanks to a goal of Danielle Bertelli in the sudden death.

2. Open of Ellicott City (by Paul Eyes)
Miguel Marques wins US International Open.
Miguel Marques of the Subbuteo Club of Connecticut (SCC) took the honors in the largest tournament ever staged in the USA. In the Open, 66 players made up the field, with representatives from 13 states and Canada. Marques battled through a tough half of the draw, securing a 2-1 victory over surprise finalist Alex Batacchi from Florida in the final. Patrick Sheridan of Maryland claimed the U19 title by defeating club mate Stuart Russell on shots. Jim Taylor and Gregg Deinhart reached the semis.
Matt Steinmuller beat Collin Dohner 2-0 for the U15 honors. Dave Baxter beat Gregg Deinhart of WTSL 2-1 in the veterans final.
The team event was won by Connecticut (SCC), who defeated Maryland (MSC) 2-0 in the final.
76 players in total competed, which is a new record for the game in North America.

3. Johannesburg Open/First SA Champion Crowned (by Clifford Graaff) The 2nd of December 2007 proved to be a historical day in table football in South Africa.
The first South African Table Football Championships were held at the Discovery Recreational Centre and a record field of 15 participants took part.
Each participant was sponsored with a beautiful Mille kit bag and Mille sports shirt worth in excess of R 100.00.
The 15 participants were drawn into five groups of three with the group winners and the three best runner-ups qualifying for the senior quarter finals.
Before the knock-out games commenced everybody was treated to a delicious free lunch courtesy of Colleen Graaff (Clifford's wife).
The remaining juniors and girls then qualified for their respective group semi finals and finals.
The girls final saw Gillian Graaff account for her very good friend Robyn Morgan in the final to claim her first title.
The boys final also saw two good friends compete for the title and Michael Fouche (who has only been playing for three weeks) defeated Richard Graaff
3-2 on shots after a goalless final.
The semi finals saw Reza Bodiat taking pre-tournament favourite Clifford Graaff to a tense game and only losing by the odd goal in three. Sean Morgan then accounted for junior Taariq Bodiat 3-1. Taariq Bodiat has managed to reach the senior semi finals in two of the three FISTF tournaments this year and this augurs well for Taariq in the future.
Reza Bodiat defeated his son Taariq by 7 goals to 4 in a highly entertaining curtain raiser to the final.
The first ever FISTF-approved SA Championships was decided once again between arch rivals Clifford Graaff and Sean Morgan. The final lived up to its status and top quality play was dished up to keep a boisterous crowd on the edge of their seats for an enthralling 30 minutes.
Sean got the final off to a cracking start and scored the first goal early in the game to place pressure on Clifford. The pressure paid off and a very tentative Clifford was soon on the back foot when Sean slotted his second goal after a sublime flowing movement from his own area. Clifford then managed to pull a goal back to close the gap. However Sean quickly seized the initiative again and scored his third goal after a foul by Clifford in the shooting area. Sean then had a great chance to score his fourth only to see his shot saved by Clifford. From the resultant clearance Clifford sneaked in his second goal on the stroke of halftime – this proved to be the turning point in the game.
Clifford then turned on the pressure in the second half and placed Sean under tremendous pressure. Clifford then equalized to set up a grand stand finish to a great game. Sean then committed an uncharacteristic foul in his own area and Clifford chipped the ball over the defensive wall and took the lead for the first time. Clifford then managed to score his fifth and deciding goal after a great build-up and secure his third FISTF title of the year and claim the South African title for 2007.
Each junior received a trophy irrespective of where they finished and the delight on their faces was priceless.
Lucky draw prizes, courtesy of our two smaller sponsors namely Absa and Wesbank, were also handed out to the winners.
The curtain has now been drawn on a highly successful first season and SATFA are extremely happy with the remarkable progress that has been made and even bigger and better plans are already underway for 2008.

4. Grand Prix of Denmark
Players interested to attend the GP of Denmark in Odense must be careful as a new date for the tournament might be announced soon due to the unavailability of the hall. Info: Jesper Nielsen at http://SoCalSubbuteo.GooglePages.com

-  Maricopa Cup: Wayne Smith
-  Newcomers Cup: Dominic Hutchinson
-  Maricopa Trophy: Simon Hutchinson

1. Some wishes for 2008
Dear all, 2007 has been a very good year for FISTF. We had more tournaments and more players than ever in the past, we had our first events in Finland, South Africa and Singapore, the Europa Cup and the World Cup were great but also the level of play is higher than ever with the emergence of new top talents such as Daniele Bertelli, Wolfgang Leitner, Tiago Sousa, Kasper Bennett,...

For the FISTF Board, 2007 was also a very important year as FISTF is now a legal association with all our statutes and internal regulations approved by the french law. FISTF also became a registered trademark. We also had a very important help from our new webmaster, Mr Christos Archimandritis, who is running the new FISTF website in a very professional way. The disciplinary Board has officially started working thanks to their three
members: Vassilis Koutsombinas (Greece), Chris Wrigley (England) and Robert Lenz (Austria). The marketing department (Alan Collins) has made many new positive contacts with the medias and companies while Heinz Eder and Frédéric Perdaens have made an amazing work to run the sports department.
Finally, we managed to compile the archives of the FISTF tournaments from
1993 to 2007, which took a lot of time. Hundreds of pages have been written and the files will satisfy those who like to keep an eye on former tournaments and statistics.

Another good step forward is that the FISTF shop is now open from our partner's website at www.astrobase.it

Some changes have been made to improve the quality of the FISTF calendar.
The rule of the 3rd week-end of the month has been accepted by the big majority of nations so that more week-ends are free for national competitions. I think it's a major move for everyone.

Of course, there are many big challenges for 2008. We hope to convince more players to work for the good of the game. The game wouldn't exist without the people who work at local or national level to organize leagues, tournaments or to work on administrative tasks. This is the reason why it is important to respect these people and to become members of the national associations. Many players only think about playing and don't accept to pay a membership fee to support their association. This is the case in particular in England and I really hope to see a positive move to support the ESTFA in 2008.

More challenges are present for the next few months. FISTF is trying to find a solution to change the rules about the goalkeepers. We have several ideas but it will take time to achieve things. Anyway, a major move might happen in the next few months.

The FISTF Board will also decide which tournaments will be Majors next season. There will be some decisions to take in a few weeks time and it will be another difficult job for us.

Finally, we'll try to have more member nations and of course tournaments in some more countries. Our next big tournaments, the world cup in Austria and the european cup for clubs in England, will be huge tournaments and we hope that many players and teams will take part.

In the name of the FISTF Board, I wish you a very good year 2008 and a lot of fun playing table football.

1. Challenger of Brussels (by Philippe Hipfinger) The first FISTF event of the year was played in Watermael-Boitsfort, a nice area of Brussels, with 26 players registered. Players could play in 2 categories if they were allowed according to the World Ranking.  In Open, Steve Grégoire who had no points in this category on the Rankings, claimed the victory by defeating Frédéric Vanton of Brussels SC in the final.
Frédéric Vanton beat one of the favourite of the day, Olivier Delogne in the quarter finals.  In the Veterans, Pol Serwy from SC Jambes repeated his victory from the last future of Brussels by beating again the same opponent in the final, Patrick Peltier from Brussels SC.  In the U19, Jonathan Thulier from Templeuve United was too strong for the 13 years old Océane Van Melkebeke from Brussels SC. She also lost surprisingly the final in U15 against almost 9 years old Kenny De Schuyteneer from Brussels United.
In the team category, SC Jambes reached the final by beating Templeuve United in a very close semi-final and was a solid opponent for Brussels SC in the final which won 2-0 with the presence of Gil Delogne in the team who was not planned to play but wished to play a game as he seems very motivated to defend the colours of his home new team!

8. Subbuteo Connect (Written by Steve Whitehead) Ever wondered if you have subbuteo players living nearby?  Going on holiday, and maybe want to find a local club to visit while you are there?
How about sneaking off to a subbuteo match while on your honeymoon?  Well maybe not, but some might try. With Subbuteo Connect you can plot yourself, or your club on the map.  You can even list your upcoming tournament locations and add your table soccer photographs.  The map cycles through the members, panning to their geographic location in the world, or you can control the map using zoom in and out on particular regions.  The photo slide show runs as you operate the map.

This application currently has over 200 members, but I believe we have only scratched the surface.  Please take a moment to look at Subbuteo Connect and put yourself on the map.  I developed this map because it was obvious there are loads of subbuteo players out there just waiting to connect with each other.  Who knows, the guy nextdoor might play.
The website is located at: http://www.frappr.com/subbuteoconnect
Please feel free to check out the site and register your information, the more people the better.

9. Scotland: re-launch in Glasgow (by Jim Law) On Thursday 24 Jan 2008 the Glasgow Table Soccer Association will reform playing fortnightly in a venue in Glasgow city centre. It is expected that there will be initially 7 - 10 players taking part. The club is being organised by Willie Fleming a ex Scottish international Table Soccer player and others in the Glasgow area who played Table Soccer (ETF rules) many years ago. The SSTFA and World Table Soccer will be assisting them by providing new pitches/boards , goals and figures for those who need them.
It is hoped the Glasgow players will take eventually take part in the remaining Scottish National Circuit events and the forthcomoing Glasgow GP.

10. Argentina: Copa Rosario 2008 (by Claudio Miscia) The first "Copa Rosario" was held last 12th of January in Rosario, Argentina, organized by the newly formed club ASR08. 17 players gave life to the most crowded tournament ever in South America. Nino Di Giannantonio played his "Inter" to the victory in the U12 cup against Marco Miscia ("Fiorentina"), winning thanks to a Golden Gol.

Tonino Silvestrini's "Lazio" won the final of the open Cup against Benedetto Colarossi's "Roma", under the cameras of local television Canal Cooperativo, which entirely filmed the match to broadcast it soon; Radio Corazón was also there. Claudio Miscia ("San Marino") and Marco Miscia took respectively the 3rd and 4th place.

ASR08, who is organizing the first Grand Prix in Argentina, to be held the 3rd-4th of May in Rosario, induces its players to use names of teams (real or invented) in order to make competitions more attractive to newbyes, media and spectators.

Details and pictures: www.miscia.com/subbuteo.

11. Finland new club
There is one new club in Finland, which is called Porvoon Subbuteo Klubi The contact person is Ilkka Tuominen (www.subbuteoworld.co.uk for more details.

13. USA: 2008 Maricopa Cup (by Simon Hutchinson) On Sunday January 13 the 2008 Maricopa Cup started with the first round played in Simi Valley.  Wayne Smith's dominance of the California Subbuteo scene continued as he finished top of the tournament group undefeated.
Simon Hutchinson's narrow victory over Kevin Nieman ensured that he finished in second place.  Nieman finished in third place due to his superior goal difference over Andrea Guarducci. Dominic Hutchinson finished in fifth place with one win. Adam Carlson finished in sixth with one draw.
Guarducci's catenacciodefense, excellent flicking, and use of the Maricopa Vase rules made it too hard for the top three players to beat him. Dominic was the only person to do so, and that game was played using regular rules.
A full report and all the scores can be found on the Southern California Subbuteo Club's website at http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com

This meant that the competition had a very high level and only the best ones reached high position. After the group stages, 2 players from the eight groups organized qualified for the next round. In this round, Charles Aquilina and Mark Gauci who both played the Premier division last year lost their matches, while Hansel Mallia and Kenneth Attard both reached the next round. At quarter finals, Massimo Cremona, Maltese highest ranked player lost to Joe Borg Bonaci 3-0 while Derek Conti bet Kenneth Attard 1-0. In the semi final stage, Derek Conti faced Joe Borg Bonaci and won 1-0 in the extra time after a 0-0 tie. In the other match, Joe Mifsud bet Hansel Mallia 1-0 with an early goal.
In the final, Derek Conti and Joe Mifsud played one of their best performances where Conti won 3-2 with the final goal scored two minutes from time.
The next programmed event for the MTFSA will be the weekend of the 26 and
27 January with the International Open to be held at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Hamrun.

9. FISTF diary of clubs & associations
Some of you probably know I have started to write a book caled the "International diary of clubs". The goal of the book is to write a small story for each national association, the list of active clubs (with the details of each club's contact person, the schedule of the club meetings,...), the contact person of the association and a small section called "A bit of geography" to tell more about where in the country the clubs are.

Here is a list of countries and the situation for each association. Any person wanting to give help to write articles or to collect datas is more than welcome. Thanks. A copy of the book can be sent mby e-mail.

9. Paul Eyes' Subbuteo Teacher Vlog
Paul has created a great new teaching tool using on-line video. Its a great thing especially to share with new players.
Here's what Paul had to say about it, on the ASA Forum: "Just started putting this together. I will expand as time allows! The video editing is basically non existent as I have no patience for things like that! I also have a very vbasic video camera so resolution is not great, but I think it works fine. Some familiar segments, but also some new stuff. Goal is to categorize and have a go to place for subbuteo related vids:"
