Moi kaikki

Sorry this is in English, mutta minä en puhu Suomea!!

As some of you might know, Jani 'Puppe' Mustonen and I are playing in the Milton Keynes International Open in England on 17 and 18 March. There is an individual tournament on Saturday 17 March, and a teams event on the Sunday. Puppe and I are both entered in the Open category on Saturday - I hope to play both Open and Veterans, but that probably won't be possible.

The tournament is quite large, with the following entrants so far:

71 Open
12 Vets
7 Under 19
2 Ladies

There are players from 16 countries so far registered! The website for the tournament is www.subbuteoplayersforum.co.uk/home.html

Entries close on 13 March. If one more player from Finland could make it, we could enter a 'Helsinki All Stars' team for the Sunday competition (you really need 4 for a team, but can play with 3 players). If we don't have enough for a team, Puppe and I hope to play for one of the other teams on the Sunday and/or some friendlies, maybe against the guys from Norway and Denmark for some Scandinavian action....:)

Let me know ASAP if you might be interested in coming along.

Pojat

I have been able to clarify the rule with Vincent.

I asked him whether it was possible to score a goal from a free flick from a deflection off either the keeper, a defending figure or an attacking figure. His answer was clear:

'As for the rule, you can indeed NOT score a goal this way. When you have a
free kick, you must pass the ball to another player and then shoot! It
means you need at least 2 flicks to score!'

I think this clarifies it  :)

I will send Vincent Coppenolle an email to clarify this one, as it is quite important..... :?

Hi

Regarding Kaitsu's question, rule 7 is relevant to the issue of the goalkeeper touching a shot. Rule 7.2.2 is clear:

7.2.2.   The goalkeeper may try to save or stop a shot not according to rule 7.1 without the risk of scoring an own goal by deflecting the ball. A goal-flick shall be awarded instead if the goalkeeper deflects an irregular shot into his own goal. See rule 15.

However, I have not been able to find the rule that says a free flick deflecting of a defending figure (not the goalkeeper) into the goal is not a goal. Zinga?? Anyone??

Also, last Thursday, two other questions re the rules came up. The first was what happens when an offside attacking figure is 'tick' flicked (ie flicked onside) but hits the ball. Under rule 13.4.3, the answer is that it is a free flick if it hits the ball, and a back if it hits another figure:

13.4.3.   There are no restrictions on where to flick the "ticked" playing figure. However, a "ticked" playing figure may not touch any other playing figure or the ball.
When the offense occurs:
Referee's expression:    Back / free-flick / penalty
Punishment:   a.   Back for touching any other playing figure. If back is claimed, the referee shall replace all affected playing figures to their previous positions. Then, the referee shall give the signal for the game to continue by stating: play!
b.   Free-flick from where the "ticked" playing figure has touched the ball. See rules 11 and 12.

The second question was whether the defender can remove the spare goalkeeper from one point on the pitch, then immediately place it another point and flick at the ball. The answer is no, under rule 9.2.3:

9.2.3.   The spare-goalkeeper may only be used again when the ball has been played by another playing figure or goalkeeper.

I think we got both those rules right the other night  :)

Moi Mr Heikonen - welcome back!

I am not sure I can make it tomorrow and remain happily married

Let me know when you might next be available eg on a Monday at Kurvi or a Thursday at the school and hopefully we can meet up.

Voi nenä! :?

I hesitate to offer an opinion for the sake of it given that this issue has now been sorted out, but for what it is worth....I agree it's kind of unfortunate that whatever the issue is seemingly cannot be resolved, especially in the fairly small 'community' that is table football (the game needs all the players it can get working and playing together, both in Finland and globally), but people are adults and make their own choices.

I understand that the issue has now been avoided, but from previous experiences in Australia, a good atmosphere is essential to a successful and enjoyable league.

As long as someone bought me some protective clothing , I would've been happy to referee as suggested....but if not, not.

Hi Vesa (and Timo)

LainaaEliot, could you tell me at what time you are coming on thursday? Timo has time for one game, and as I can play the first roung game against him on the weekend, then he could play you on thursday.

I can't 100% guarantee it, but all being well I should be there by about 5.45 or 6.00pm. Does that suit you Timo?
LainaaYes, that's why I think it would be good to have a system to inform others if we are coming or not. Maybe a different topic alltogether. That way no one will come in vain with no opponents in sight.
The least amount of work would be for us all to assume that everyone (except Mankinen, who I gather has to come from far away) will be there each Thursday fortnight, with people who cannot make it  required to post a message by say the Tuesday before that they can't make it. Just a suggestion

Thanks lads. Jutta has translated for me and I agree with everything that Vesa and Hönkki have said. I think we should aim to have as many as we can there each Thursday that we play and aim to have 2 rounds played each night. It is a long way to come for just one game, especially if you have the bye :)  :)

All the best and see you on Thursday.

Yhteisliigat / Playing this week?
helmikuu 26, 2007, 08:08:16
Hi all

I just wanted to check (i) whether we are playing this week at the school, and (ii) if so, are we using the draw that Vesa did a couple of weeks back or are we doing a new one?

Hopefully by Thursday my fingers will have thawed out from my trip to Lappi

Regards.

Eliot

OK, hopefully see you all on 1 March.

Moi poijat.

Are we playing this Thursday, or is everyone still too exhausted?! I am available if we are playing.

And well done on the weekend - once again another well run tournament played in a very good spirit, even if metal goalkeepers should be banned
