1. Efrem Intra is the new world champion Last week-end FISTF World Cup in Dortmund, Germany saw Efrem Intra (Italy), the world's n° 21 beat Massimo Cremona (Malta, n°2) to win his first open world title. Intra, 25, managed to beat Antoine Dikaios (last 32), Wolfgang Leitner (eightfinals), Giorgos Koutis (quarter) and Raul Benita (semi) before the final game. Cremona, who ended 2nd of his group, beat Saverio Bari, Eric Verhagen, Antonio Mettivieri and Gil Delogne (on shots) to prove he really deserves the 2nd sport int he world rankings. In the final, Intra scored a golden goal to win the game 2-1 in the extra-time.

In the other categories, some interesting results desevre mention. In the veterans, in a third final in a row between Martijn Bom and Renzo Frignani, the dutch world number 1 finally managed to win the title. Int he U19, shots decided the winner and Stefano Buono finally beat Arnaud Nullens. In the shout-out, one of Nullens' goals wasn't allowed while the ball had probably crossed the line. The referee asked Nullens to shot again from the same position and he missed, giving the title to the young italian.

Kristian Staal Nielsen, the world's number 1, offer the first title in the category to Denmark after a deserved win in the final against the very promising Italian Mattia Bellotti. Finally, in the ladies, Kamilla Kristensen made a fantastic appearance when she beat Delphine Dieudonné in the semi-final. Dieudonné was unbeaten in the category for more than 10 years. In the final, Kristensen defeated Austria's Michaela Scherbaum 2-0.

In the teams, titles were given to Italy in Open and Veterans, the Belgium in U19, the Denmark in U15 while France managed to get the Ladies title.

Thanks to Thossa Büsing and his crew for this great week-end. Pictures should soon be available on www.tablefootballworldcup.de while some pictures have also been posted yesterday on Templeuve United's blog at www.subbutempleuve.skyblog.com

The full results of the tournament are available. The details of the team matches will be added soon.

3. France Organisers for WC07 (from www.fromthetouchline.net.ms) At the annual FISTF Congress held at Roadstop in Dortmund on friday, it was announced that France would be organising the World Cup in 2007, and the venue will be Les Herbiers, in the Nantes & Cholet area. The tournament will be expected to be of a very high standard and will without any doubt be a very great tournament. More information will follow!

4. New FISTF Board (from www.fromthetouchline.net.ms) Current FISTF President, Vincent Coppenolle has been re-elected for another four years during the annual FISTF Congress which was held at Roadstop in Dortmund after the World Cup draws. Along with Coppenolle will be the Germans Thossa Busing and Fred Vulpes and Austrian Heinz Eder who were previously also on the board, along with a crop of new faces which include Kostas Triantafillou from Greece, Mario Spiteri from Malta and Alan Collins from England. Hopefully the new board will keep working for the sport and bringing FISTF to a higher standard. The full list of board members and their jobs are:
Vincent Coppenolle (Belgium) - President Heinz Eder (Austria) - Vice-president / Sports Director Thossa Büsing (Germany) - Vice-president Fred Vulpes (Germany) - Financial Director Alan Collins (England) - Marketing Director Kostats Triantafillou (Greece) - Communication Director Mario Spiteri (Malta) - General Secretary

The Board will also rely on some other persons to get some more help:
Olivier Père: assistant of the Sports Director for the calendar, the WC and the EC; Chris Aggelinas: assistant of the Sports Director for several jobs; Mike Ewer: official webmaster; Vasilis Koutsombinas: secretary of the disciplinary council (in charge to write down the rules first); Frédéric Perdaens: world rankings officer; Pete Motley: to help Alan Collins.

5. The board projects
FISTF is full of projects for the next 4 years and some projects will be realized soon:
- the FISTF shop will be online in a couple of days;
- improvement of the calendar & the handbook;
- work on disciplinary rules;
- ...

FISTF is also looking for players from North America to work on the project to create a North American Confederation.

6. Portugal: Open of Matosinhos delayed
The International Open of Matosinhos has been delayed. The new date will be announced soon.

7. England: Curtis is the Tigers' champ (from www.eflicker.net) Adrian Curtis was crowned the first ever Fenland Tigers club champion after their penultimate league meeting of the season at Huntingdon's Montagu Club. Curtis soared to the title despite finishing second on the night to an unbeaten John Turpin. Victories over Alex Turpin (5-1) and son Sam (6-1) set the England international up for this weekend's World Cup competition in Dortmund, Germany.

8. Belgium: Dave Wouters wins
Dave Wouters (Hot Club d'Ecosse) won last saturday "Flanders Cup", which was awarded to the winner ofa tournament taking part in Bonheiden, near Mechelen. The Dutch-speking side of Belgium organized the event while only Jos Ceulemans was representing Flanders in the Belgian team at the World Cup. Wouters deafeated Diederik Boyen (Templeuve United) in the final while Dave Le Beer and Stéphane Lambert reached the semis.

9. This week's question
Would you agree to have a world cup played on 3 days (from friday at 2.00 pm to sunday afternoon)? Do you think it would be a good idea to have a more relax schedule and to have more time int he evening to relax? Would it discourage players to travel?

1. The FISTF shop is Open
FISTF is very proud to annouce that its shop is now open at http://shop.fistf.com Take a look and think about it for your future gifts.

2. CHANGES IN THE HANDBOOK FOR THE SEASON 2006/2007 The FISTF BoD has taken some decisions for the new season. The final version of the handbook 2006/2007 will be sent later in August.

a) Starting fees:
After some discussions FISTF BoD decides another solution in this topic.
Organizers will have to publish latest 2 months before the tournament their starting fees, if they want to make them higher in any category, in that case there won't be a limit. No information means that the organizer will have to respect the limits of FISTF BoD.
FISTF BoD will inform about higher starting fees in the newsletter of FISTF and in the forum on www.fistf.com.

Major:
Team: 23 EUR -> 23 pound
Open/Veteran: 10 EUR -> 10 pound
Category: 7 EUR -> 7 pound

Grand Prix/International Open:
Team: 18 EUR -> 18 pound
Open/Veteran: 8 EUR -> 8 pound
Category: 6 EUR -> 6 pound

Satellite:
Team: 12 EUR -> 12 pound
Open/Veteran: 5 EUR -> 5 pound
Category: 3 EUR -> 3 pound

Challenger/Future:
Open/Veteran: 5 EUR -> 5 pound
Category: 3 EUR -> 3 pound

Prices in pounds count for England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland.

b) Transfers:
Starting with the season 2006/2007 there will be a transfer window from 1st of September till the 31st of December.
Players who didn't play in this period for the club they are registered for can change the club till 31st of December with sending the transfer form to the FISTF Sports-Department. Players who are not in any Individual ranking and who didn't play for a club can change the club during the whole season.

c) Satellites for teams:
Next season it will be possible to organize Satellite tournaments in the team category. Only clubs which are not in the Top 20 of the team ranking can take part. A minimum of 4 teams have to take part that points for the World ranking are given.

d) Creation of Future and Challenger tournaments:
Associations will be able to organize 2 new kinds of tournaments with the start of the season 2006/2007. These kinds of tournaments should be asked to the FISTF Sports-Director least 6 weeks before they are organized.

Challenger tournament:
Open: for players who are out of Top 200
Categories: for players who are out of Top 25 Maximum of points: 40 points for the winner No team competition

Future tournament:
Open: for players who are out of Top 300
Categories: for players who are out of Top 30 Maximum of points: 30 points for the winner No team competition

e) Friendly international matches:
FISTF BoD thinks that it is good to promote friendly international matches during the year.
Starting with the new season it will be possible to play international friendly matches and get points in the nations ranking for the World Cup.
There are 2 official matches between 2 nations possible per season. Both national associations have to send the confirmation of an official game to the FISTF Sport-Department latest one week before the game will take part.
If the game will take place at an international tournament, the organizer of this tournament have to be informed too.
If both national associations confirm the official game and one nation won't be present the game will be a 4x0 ff. Official friendly national games have to be played with referees. After the game a sheet with the results and the referees have to be sent to the FISTF Sports-Department to overtake it into the nations ranking of FISTF.

Points:
Victory: 20 points
Draw: 8 points
Loss: 0 points

Extra points:
10 points for beating the World's number 1 team
6 points for beating the World's number 2 team
3 points for beating the World's number 3 team

Please feel free to contact a member of the FISTF BoD if there are any other ideas. COntact: http://sites.keyworld.net/hamruntfc/

6. New website for the scottish association http://www.sstfa.org/

7. This week's question
What do you think would be the best ways to convince big companies to sponsor table football events and what should FISTF propose to offer them?

8. Last week's question
Thanks for your answers. Most people think having blue pitches is not a good idea.

2. Charity fantasy football competition (by Algy Taylor) 3. Tayside Kickers '91 4. Lega-Liga Odense 5. Worthing Fivestar 6. Subbuteo in Finland (by Kari Hakkarainen, http://home.arcor.de/mtilgner/internati ... burg06.htm

2. Charity fantasy football competition (by Algy Taylor) Sam Munnings (formerly of Kings Norton TFC) is running a charity fantasy football competition - first prize of £500, total prize fund of £1000.
Website's www.football4charity.co.uk
If you register the team business as "table soccer", then if there's 20 or more people enter we get entered in to the business league ... the winning business winning a 7-a-side match against a football4charity celebrity/old stars team, captained by former Liverpool player Neil Ruddock.
Sam occasionally runs table football tournaments in Birmingham, so I thought it'd be nice to support his charity ...

3. Tayside Kickers '91
Tayside Kickers '91 have now a website at www.taysidekickers.com and both Greg Dand and Gareth Christie (Hot Club d'Ecosse) will join this new club from september 1.

4. Lega-Liga Odense
Denish team Lega-Liga Odense will to change its name to TFC Vikings. Some norwegian players are expected to join the team as well.

5. Worthing Fivestar
Following an EGM held on tuesday night, and an irresistable sponsorship deal from the San Siro Co, Worthing Fivestar TFC, will now formally be known as San Siro Worthing Fivestar.

6. Subbuteo in Finland (by Kari Hakkarainen, http://www.subu.fi/ & http://forum.subu.fi In the website and forum everything is so far in finnish, but you can create a new topic in the forum in english, if you like.
During the past two weeks we have had two international visitors: Stuart Osborne from England and Eliot Kennedy from Australia. Eliot took part in the 1994 World Cup and now he is going to stay here in Finland for a year.
I believe he is going to be a great help to us, especially with our FISTF-league. Another important player in the league is Teemu Sihvola who took part in the 1996 World Cup in Silkeborg.

7. Paul Eyes's new e-mail address
Paul Eyes in the US can now be reached at http://www.wherethehellismatt.com/

1. New FISTF Handbook
FISTF are very happy to announce the new FISTF Handbook is now available.
Please note also that for every tournament, organizers will have to fill the other attached file with all requested information. We insist on the fact the organizers have to respect all rules stated in the handbook as from this season, there will be some sanctions for organizers who don't respect the rules.

2. Eflicker is online again
Victor Jones's excellent website is now up and running again at eflicker.net Many updates and news have been added since the beginning of the week.

3. New website
http://le-premiere.blogspot.com/ is a new blog with news about table football from around the world. It's worth a look !

4. Fivestar Short! (from eflicker.net)
Chris Short made a successful debut for San Siro Worthing Fivestar, as he won the club's national open event. In the final, the Sussex club's new signing overcame Phil Redman in a repeat of the English Masters decider in May, this time via a 3-2 scoreline. But maybe more impressive was his semi-final success against world number one Eric Verhagen.
Link: FULL REPORT at eflicker.net

5. Christie off to a flyer (from eflicker.net) Gareth Christie got his defence of the Scottish championship off to a flying start by winning the season's opening event, the Keeling Cup, in Slateford Green, Edinburgh. In a very open tournament, five players were in with a chance of winning going into the final session of swiss ladder matches. But Christie's 2-2 draw with Steve Bennett in the last round ensured that he claimed top spot on goal difference over Tayside Kickers clubmate Greg Dand. Solway's Allan Manson finished a surprise third, whilst Mike Burns was 5th, despite not conceding a goal during the tournament. The attendance of 18 players - including several from the recently reformed Tayside club and Colin Mathews, who travelled from Aberdeen - was the highest for a Scottish domestic event for many years.
Keeling Cup - top 3 of 18
1 - Gareth Christie (Tayside Kickers) 10pts (+10 GD)
2 - Greg Dand (Tayside Kickers) 10pts (+6 GD)
3 - Allan Manson (Solway) 9pts (+0 GD)

6. Open of Cormons (by Marco Pinausi)
The new official website of I.O. Cormons is : www.opencormons.eu The website is under costruction, but I think will ready for the end of the week.

7. Verhagen's finishes as he started (from eflicker.net) Eric Verhagen has finished the season as he had started it, by topping FISTF's world rankings. Verhagen lost pole position in June, when Massimo Cremona overtook him following an appearance in the World Cup final, but a return to action in the large European tournaments, after spending time overseas, saw the Dutchman quickly reclaim the number 1 spot. Cremona ends the season second in the table, ahead of Vasco Guimaraes in third and fourth placed Carlos Flores. World champion Efrem Intra moves up two places to 5th in the August rankings, after victory at the Mattersburg Major, the only full international event held in the month. Massimo Bolognino (7th, down 2) and Alain Hanotiaux (12th, down 4) are amongst the noticeable fallers, but their Eagles Napoli side take back top spot in the team standings following their success in Austria.

Category leaders:
Veterans:Martijn Bom (Netherlands)
U19: Christian Haas (Austria)
U15: Kristian Staal Nielsen (Denmark)
Females: Kamilla Kristensen (Denmark)
Teams: Eagles Napoli (Italy)
Link: Full classification tables

8. Putney SC agree link-up with Stefan Corda Stefan Corda are to become sponsors of the new look Putney league, which starts in October. The table football manufacturers - internationally renowned for their high-quality hand-painted figures and producers of Raptor G2-A bases and the budget, but highly regarded, Raptor G2 and IMAGE2 bases - will provide a trophy for the club champion. They will also supply playing equipment, which will be used either as prizes or to pass to new players at the club. The news comes days after the club agreed to replace its traditional league system with a swiss ladder tournament championship-style circuit, to encourage a wider range of players to compete.

11. Subbuteo in Nuts
In last week's edition of Nuts (a magazine in the UK) it describes the FISTF Trophy, as won by Efrem Intra, as "a sort of a rubbish paperweight".
Was it supposed to be funny?

2. First Challengers to be hold in Belgium and England 3. Tutorial for new players 4. Clegg is the new Northern Ireland champion (from eflicker.net) 5. New forum for the game in the Flanders 6. Situation of transfers 7. Suppliers of material 8. FISTF calendar 9. Other tournaments 10. Contact person in your country

1. Grand Prix of Verviers postponed
The FISTF Grand Prix of Belgium in verviers will be postponed to a new date, probably in february, after the organizers were announced by the owner of the hall that the premises were not available anymore.

2. First Challengers to be hold in Belgium and England The first ever FISTF Challengers should be hold soon in Belgium and England. AS Hennuyer, Olivier Père's club, will host a Challenger in the village of Eugies on October 21. Contact: victor.jones@ukonline.co.uk).

3. Tutorial for new players
http://flick2kick.typepad.com/flick2kick/ has a new video futuring Zach Walker & Patrick Sheridan explaining the basics of the game. New players will definately enjoy the video.

4. Clegg is the new Northern Ireland champion (from eflicker.net) Davy Clegg became Northern Ireland champion for the third time on Saturday, ending an 18-year wait since his previous success in 1988.
The North Down player beat no.1 seed, Kenny Beggs in the Open final with a
2-1 shoot-out victory, following a goalless draw.
The final was played at a fast pace, with Clegg living up to his motto 'attacking play all the way'.
Beggs created a few good chances but it was Clegg who looked more dangerous in the closing stages of the game, his final touch just letting him down when he was clean through and a last-second shot just whizzing past the post.
Extra-time could not separate them but Clegg again held his nerve to win his second shoot-out of the day, and add to the titles he won in 1987 and 1988.
The pair had earlier met in the Veterans' final, which Beggs won 3-0, but Clegg recovered well to turn the tables on his old rival in the main event.
Indeed, it was a day when experience counted, with the same players making the last four in both the Open and Veterans. Donal Convery and Stephen Rodgers being the unlucky losing semi-finalists in each event.
Adam Scullion won the under-15 final in impressive style, beating Judith Morrison 4-0, while last year's U15 champion, Peter Morrison - now too old for that category - beat his brother, Andrew, in the under-19 final.
Report adapted from www.nitfa.org.uk - Full reports and results available here

5. New forum for the game in the Flanders Table football in the Flanders (dutch-speaking side of Belgium) is still growing and the local organizers have developped a forum at http://www.subbuteovlaanderen.be . A website is also under construction at http://www.subbuteovlaanderen.be

1. Peterborough & Athens: good luck
FISTF want to wish good luck to all players and clubs frot eh new season, which will start next week-end with the Satellite of Peterborough and the Open of Athens.

2. Reminder for organizers
Organizers of FISTF events should not forget to fill the new file specially made for tournaments. Please don't forget that financial sanctions might be taken as described in the handbook if the file isn't filled corretly.

3. Reminder for national associations
National associations should not forget to send the FORM 01 with all the details of their board and their contact persons.

4. Clarification ont he Europa Cup
FISTF Want to confirm the only reason why there will be 28 teams at the Europa Cup is that we had 26 registrations and to make things easier (to have 4 groups with the same number of players), we took the first 2 substitutes. The rules from the handbook state that the countries that have no team qualified from the world rankings have the priority, then countries that have only one team qualified from the world rankings,... That's whay San Srio Worthing 5 Star (England) and SL Campolide (Portugal) were selected. We are very sorry to have very negative and unfair comments from players from one team in particular (I prefer no to give the name of the team so that they will not be offended) but this team respect the fact that they were not qualified from their national criterias. FISTF understand that the very vast majority of players and clubs is happy with the current schedule of the Europa Cup though.

5. Challenger in Eugies/Frameries
The invitation file is now available from Olivier Père at manarssa2@gmail.com or manarssa2@gmail.com or timmyspiteri@gmail.com

9. USA: PSFS Puts on a Show... (by Paul Eyes) The Philadelphia Subbuteo Futbol Syndicate (PSFS) put on a great show for its first ever ASA Open event (Delaware Valley Open), September 16th. The tournament was held in a meeting room at the Courtyard Marriott in Newark, DE. The hosts had the tournament wrapped up by 3:30, thanks to the advanced scheduling work of Steve Laskey and the fast computer skills of Ted Koziara, who I witnessed create an Excel spreadsheet document within minutes to record scores and calculate standings, impressive stuff Ted! 15 players were scheduled to compete, and 3 groups of 5 had been drawn the previous evening. Unfortunately, Anthony Rubbo was a late withdrawal, so his games were recorded as an 0-3 forfeit loss. Top 2 from each group, plus best two 3rd place finishers were to advance from the group phase.
Highlights of the group play included the dancing of Eddie Davidson, and one of the cleaning ladies at the hotel showing an interest in playing. On the tables, Gregg Deinhart and Patrick Sheridan played out a 0-0 tie.
Sheridan then impressively went on to top his group over the 7 time National Champion. Results from the KO phase:
Quarter-finals:
Eyes 1 Russell 0
Morgans 1 Sheridan 0 (OT)
Conturso 4 Mishtal 0
Deinhart 3 Jeff Davidson 0
Semi-Finals:
Eyes 4 Morgans 0
Deinhart 2 Conturso 0
Final:
Eyes 1 Deinhart 0

The final was a very close contest, with Eyes scoring after 7 minutes, then holding on to the lead. Late pressure from Deinhart resulted in a shot off the crossbar with the last flick of the game. In the consolation final (Benjarmin Franklin), Daniel Cranston defeated Eddie Davidson 3-0. Please check photo albums (left) in the coming days for pics of the event.

2. Falcons star soars to victory (www.eflicker.net) Giorgos Koutis was a sudden death winner over Dimitris Mavromitros in the final of the International Open of Athens on Sunday. It was the Falcons player's fourth FISTF tournament victory in Greece, having won previous events in October 2002, October 2004 and February of this year. Kostas Triantafyllou and Nicos Beis reached the semi-finals of the 39-player main event, whilst their respective club sides, Falcons and Roligans, continued their dominance of Greek tournaments by contesting Saturday's teams final.
And Roligans started this season on top by winning 3-1, after twice finishing second to their rivals in team events during the last campaign.
Three new clubs participated in the team event. Rafina returned after a 3-year absence, AEK Athens made a first ever appearance while Athens Kickers had been non-active for more than a decade. Newly merged Atlas-Glyfada secured a double in the individual categories, as Nikos Antonopoulos was the champion of the 4-player U15 event and Lazarus Papakonstantinou made a successful debut in the veterans' category, by winning the 5-player event. Results available by e-mail.

3. Satellite of Peterborough: Beggs bags 'boro booty (www.eflicker.net) Kenny Beggs took the first individuals' honours of the new season when he beat Steve Hawkins 3-0 in the final of England's Peterborough satellite event. However the Northern Ireland international's path to the final was every bit as tricky as his journey from his native Belfast to compete in the East Midlands tournament. Simon Gale pushed him close in an eventual
3-1 group defeat for the Putney player, while Simon Bryan went one better and held Beggs to a goalless draw. And whilst Rob O'Hare was beaten 3-0 in the quarter-finals, Beggs had to overcome a one goal deficit against Adrian Curtis in the semi-finals. David Lauder lost 3-2 in overtime to Hawkins in the other semi, but was involved in a more thrilling quarter-final encounter with Malc Dickson, where the Welshman had led 2-1 at the interval and 4-2 with just 3 minutes remaining. However two late strikes by Dickson forced overtime, before Lauder had the final say as a goal six minutes into the extra period sealed a 5-4 victory. Anthony Collins took two noticeable scalps during the day, first beating number 5 seed Martin Hodds 1-0 to top his group, then thrashing Bryan 3-0 in the barrage round. The Manchester youngster however lost 4-1 in the quarter-finals to Hawkins, who had earlier faced difficulties against another of the improving English U19 players, Matt Lishman. Lishman dominated their group stage encounter, hitting the frame of the goal four times, but he couldn't score and it was the experienced Hawkins who was fortunate to emerge with a point from the goalless draw. Lishman had however needed the win to progress after losing
2-1 to Rob O'Hare - having led with three minutes to play - in his opening game. O'Hare had put in a dreadful display to lose 5-1 to Hawkins. Fortunes improved for Cypriot international O'Hare though, as a goal early in the second half sent former Peterborough satellite champion Alan Collins packing in the barrage round.
* Ed Whitehead retained his U19 title, again at the expense of twin brother Tom, this time winning 3-2 after overtime. Jon Bryan and Sam Curtis reached the semis. Adrian Curtis won the veterans' title with a 3-2 success over Richard Pepper.

6. Scotland: Bennett just avoids Burns (www.eflicker.net) Steve Bennett won the Clairbois Cup by the slenderest of margins on Sunday.
Bennett was left tied on points and on goal difference with Mike Burns in the four round swiss system event in Dundee, Scotland, but the Tayside player took the title by virtue of having score more goals - ten to Burns'
seven. Going into the final session, Bennett had trailed on goal difference; however a 4-0 success over Iain Bell pulled him level alongside Burns, who defeated Gareth Christie - winner of the Scottish circuit's first event in Edinburgh - by a single strike.

1. Reminder for the organizers
After some mistakes were made int he draw of the Mislata Open, I want to let people know that there are rules in the FISTF handbook on how to make draws. Here is an important point to be remembered:
"The tournament organizer has to make the draw the way that if it is possible (means that less teams/players from the same country than number of groups are taking part) teams/players from the same country won't be drawn to the same group."

2. New book about Subbuteo (by Jamie Ballard) As you may be aware there is a new book about subbuteo, by the son of Peter Adolph which is being released for sale on 11th October 2006. The title is ''Growing up with Subbuteo''. Here is the press release.
"Mark Adolph was the envy of his schoolmates - he never had any problem getting rare Subbuteo teams because his Dad invented the game and owned the factory that made it. Mark tells the story of Subbuteo from the very early days when his father Peter had thousands of orders but no games with which to supply them. He recounts his father's adventures in football as a director of Tonbridge FC and supporter of Queens Park Rangers, as an avid collector of luxury cars and as "a bit of a rogue". Did you know why the game is called 'Subbuteo'? It's because Peter Adolph wanted to call it 'The Hobby' but was persuaded this was not specific enough. Peter was an ornithologist and Falco Subbueto Subbueto is the Latin name for the bird of prey The Hobby Hawk. Peter began his adventure with an advertisement in "Boys Own" magazine in 1947 offering a new table top football game for 7/6d (37.5p in new money). At that time the idea was just that, an idea, and Peter went off to New York to value a birds' egg collection. Once there, he got a telegram from his mother asking what she should do with GBP 7,500 worth of 7/6d postal orders, worth about GBP 750,000 in present terms. Then began the frantic process of making the game and suggesting it should be played on a pitch made from an old Army blanket."
Anyway the book costs £7.99 however if you pre-order it from ''PLAY.COM''

3. Europa Cup for club

4. FISTF Tour: Mödling Open (by Manfred Pawlica) On Saturday, TFC Mattersburg won the International Open Of Mödling in the final against the D.E.V.I.L.S. Austria. TFC Wr. Neustadt and Mattersburg B reached the semis. The tournament was well organised from the TVB Mödling.
The venue was a part of a church, a wonderful place to play Subbuteo. Only the D.E.V.I.L.S. had problems with this place. It´s not possible to win in a holy church (lol).
On Sunday Wolfgang Leitner won 2:0 against Manfred Pawlica the final of the open category. Wolfgang beat David Busch in the semis and Manfred beat Erich Hinkelmann on shoots.

1. FISTF Masters
The venue and date for the FISTF World Masters Malta 2006 is now agreed and confirmed.
It will be held at the Marsa Sports and Country Club, a prestigious club which was founded in 1888 and which includes a lot of sporting facilities including the Royal Malta Golf Club, cricket, tennis, squash, gym etc.
(visit www.marsasportsclub.com)
The tournament date will be SATURDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2006.
All players will be accomodated on a bed and breakfast basis at the Hotel Valentina in Paceville. (www.hotelvalentina.com). MTFSA will be paying for two nights, ie Friday 17 and Saturday 18 for all 12 players and 6 referees.
All other accomodation can be booked directly with the hotel at the very favourable rate of MTL8 (EUR 20) per person per night on b&b basis in twin.

2. Why so many names are missing in the FISTF rankings As you can see in the latest rankings (september), hjundreds of name have been removed. The players who don't appear anymore are those who didn't provide their birthdate.
The goal of the FISTF Rankings Department was to provoke a reaction to let people know that we are unhappy of the behavior of both the Organizers and the National Associations. Both should provide the details of their players. We just decided to remove all players when we don't have their birthdates. Looks strange but the number of reaction let us think that, after all, it was a good idea.
Organizers who might have a problem for the seeds of their tournament can contact Freddy (www.eflicker.net) Efrem Intra has capped an excellent season by being voted Player of the Year in the 2006 eFlicker World Table Football Awards. The Italian - who won the youth title at the 1999 European Championships - emerged from a position of a relative unknown amongst his country's many notable players to become world champion in June, beating Massimo Cremona in the final, then finished the season by claiming his first Major, at Mattersburg in August. With a good level of concentration, Intra has proved very hard to beat. He had given a hint of what was to come when he triumphed at the Brussels Open at the start of the year, amid a tough field in the Belgian capital, before wining the Beausoleil Grand Prix at Easter. Intra also enjoyed success with his Stella Artois Milano team. And his achievements have been recognised by his fellow players, as he took almost half the votes cast in the main category of the inaugural World Table Football Awards.
World Cup runner-up Massimo Cremona claimed second place in the poll, just ahead of Vasco Guimaraes and Eric Verhagen.
Delphine Dieudonne pipped Kamilla Kristensen to the female award, despite being beaten by her rival at the 2006 World Cup. Belgium's Dieudonne has however excelled in the main section of many of Europe's key tournaments, such as the London Open, where she reached the semi-finals.
There was though Danish success in the youth category as Kristian Staal Nielsen, who picked up individual and team medals at U15 level in the World Cup, was voted Young Player of the Year ahead of world U19 champion Stefano Buono.
The Future Talent Award proved the most closely fought category, with just
3 votes separating the top four. Mark Gauci was eventually highlighted as the pick of the up and coming players, after winning the South Queensferry Open and reaching both finals of March's international double header in his Maltese homeland.
The accolade of Team of the Year was a little more clear cut as Eagles Napoli, who have dominated the Majors in recent seasons, finished some way ahead of DEVILS Austria and Perugia.
The development of Maryland SC - the Club of the Year - received recognition not only from within America, but also from sectors of all of the major European playing nations.
The east coast club hosts the acclaimed US international double header, boasts a youth section with over 70 players - making it the largest such league in the world - and has the national champions at U19 (Patrick Sheridan), veteran (Paul Eyes) and effectively open (Zach Walker) levels.
Much of the rapid expansion and advancement is down to the hard work of Paul Eyes.
Amsterdam's Grand Prix was selected as the best tournament on the circuit for the season. The Dutch competition provides great organisation, with few delays, a nice venue, good transport arrangements for competitors and - for some - nice evening entertainment! As one person pointed out, all that's missing is for a bunch of great Italian players to take part.
* The winner of the eFlicker Merit Award will be announced later this week.
* All winners will be immortalized online in the forthcoming eFlicker Hall of Fame.
* Next year's World Table Football Awards will see the addition of three new categories: Pan-Pacific Player of the Year (non-European), International Fair Play Award and Best Publication (website or magazine).

4. Harvey remembered (from www.eflicker.net) The Beavington tournament makes a welcome return to the Welsh Grand Prix in Cardiff on Saturday week.
Held in memory of the late Harvey Beavington, who died at the age of just
29 in 2000, the contest is the embodiment of the Welshman in the sporting and laidback atmosphere in which it is played.
To some, the competition is more important than the Grand Prix itself.
The Beavington will take place after the individuals' finals, as ever as a 3-a-side event played over three 5 minutes sessions with no breaks. Teams are drawn randomly according to experience.
Two years ago the winners were Eric Verhagen, Algy Taylor and Dan Nicholls who beat Massimiliano Nastasi, Sam Curtis and Robert Ramsey in the final to win the £150 prize between them.
There will also be a sudden death shoot-out competition for those not reaching the quarter-finals of the Open - which includes all veterans, youths, juniors and ladies - with a crate of lager for the champion, unless they are aged under 18.
A further crate of lager is on offer to the winner of the plate competition.
Entries to the main event are now approaching 100 in the individuals and 21 teams have entered for the Sunday.
And competition manager John Lauder is keen to stress that registered entrants unable to make it to the tournament should advise the organisers as soon as possible.
"It is a real pain all round when someone fails to turn up, just because they can't be bothered to pick up the phone or send an email to confirm they cannot make it", he said.
"The last Cardiff Open only one person failed to attend and he lived 10 miles from the venue. This meant rearranging the referees and someone who had travelled 600 miles had to sit out two rounds.
"Even when they had nearly died on the M6, Alan Collins and Brian Daley still managed to phone me at 7am to say they had crashed their car and were unable to hire another."
The closing date for entries is Thursday 12th October. Flick off for both days of the tournament at the prestigious Millennium Stadium is 9.30am, with registration at 9am.

5. Promotion in Sicily (from www.cagliaricalciotavolo.net) The Sport of Subbuteo was promoted at a Family Festival in front of hundred's in Sardinia, Italy, on sunday 1st october. All at the festival were invited to play against local Cagliari Calcio Tavolo players (Licheri E.,  Migliavacca E., Damasco R., Figus G., Figus L.) +  Ezio Orrù (ACS
Bergamo) and invited guest Steve Hawkins (English Premier League).
A grand final game took place between Steve Hawkins and Riccardo Damasco in front of a large audience. An enthraling final was decided on shots, with Steve winning. More important thought was the promotion of the great sport of subbuteo + hopefulls more players joining the Cagliari Calcio Tavolo subbuteo club.

6. France: Abecassis wins again
Lionel Abecassis beat René Rouzaud in the final of the national tournament of Pau to retain last year's title. 39 players were competing and the tournament was honored by the presence of national FV Station FR3. Lionel Abecassis also claimed the Veterans title while Anaïs Lacroix-Birke (ladies), Joris Bois (U15) and Julien Etienvre (U19) were the other winners.

1. Cardiff GP: Kasper Bennett rises again The Millenium Stadium was this week-end's fantastic venue for the Grand Prix of Wales with almost 100 players coming from all over Europe to compete in a very nice tournament. Most of the top favorites lost in the early rounds and two of the outsiders manages to reach the final. England's Kasper Bennett beat world's number 1 massimo Cremona in the semi-final to meet Greece's Lazaros Papakonstatinou. The guy from the San Siro Worthing Five Star finally beat the Greek 2-0 to win his first major title. The D.E.V.I.L.S. Austria managed to beat Atlas Glyfada (Greece) to win the team title while Phil Redman (veterans) and Matt Lishman (U19) were the other winners of the week-end.

2. Open of Cormons: Flores's revenge
A few weeks after he lost the final of the Mislata Open, Carlos Flores had a great week-end in Cormons as the Spanishman brought back two titles at home. Flores won the individual tournament after a close final against Austria's Wolfgang Leitner while the Bologna Tigers manage to win the teams title. Günther Bamberzky (D.E.V.I.L.S) won the veterans tournament and Mattia Bellotti (Napoli 2000) was the best U15.
* Meanwhile FISTF wanted to congratulate the Cormons organisation team for beaing the first tournament this season to perfectly comply with the administrative rules of this year's FISTF Handbook.

3. Nationals mark return for Ireland (from www.eflicker.net) The Republic of Ireland will host its first tournament since July 2005, when the National Championships are staged on Saturday 28th October. The competition is to take place in Molloys of Tallaght, near Dublin.

Jon Schultz of Rolling Prairie, Indiana completed a personal double and led his Maple City team to victory over the Michigan Kestrels. Schultz fended off all challengers in completing a 9-game 100% record across the three events.
Michigan's Mike Ewer was on early form, scoring three past both Brian Bostelman and Ian Roy, but crumbled in the Michigan Cup semi-finals to lose
0-1 to Roy. The LaPorte, Indiana based Maple City team won 2-1 against the Michigan Kestrels, gaining revenge for a defeat by the same scoreline earlier this year. Brian Bostelman lost the key match that time, but won it this time round, beating Ian Roy 1-0.
