11. News from Malaysia (from Edwin wong) After several stalled attempts to secure a suitable venues to showcase our Table Soccer revival, we finally landed prime spot in the non-electronic games section at last weekend's Asia Game Zone 2007, the biggest electronic game convention in the country!

Our single demo table was full throughout the 3 days, as it provided a highly visual change from the popular FIFA computer/console game. We met many fans who used to play actively 20-30 years ago who were absolutely shocked to see the game again! Nostalgia ran high as many fans recognized the 20+ year old France & West Germany teams we used. It was also a thrill for them to see how the figures and pitch had evolved over time, as we also showcase the new flatter based teams and astro pitch.

However, newbies seeing this game for the first time, and oldies alike, waited anxiously for the highlight of the convention - a replay of last season's EPL (English premier League) match between Manchester United and West Ham United. In the end, it was 2-1 to West Ham, once again earning their right to remain in the EPL next season!

Following the keen interest, we are now preparing to kick-off of the inaugural league and cup, which will commence from 21 July 2007.
Registration for the 8 player league, which will run for 7 weeks (every
Saturday) opened on Monday this week, and we already have 6 registrations.
We expect to fill the last 2 slots by this weekend. The 16 player knock-out cup will run from 28 July 2007, and registration for the 8 "non-league"
places will open on 21 July 2007.

We hope that this will be the first step towards FISTF points tournaments.

12. Subbuteo in Toy Museum (by Filip Van Hulle) when visiting Belgium, during your holidays or when travelling to participate in a FISTF tournament, spend time to visit the Toy Museum in Mechelen, half way between Brussels and Antwerp.  Between Saturday 30th June and end January '08 the Mechelen Toy Museum together with the Subbuteo Club Flanders is organizing an exhibition around Subbuteo, called '60 jaar voetbalgekte' which one could translate into '60 years soccer madness'.

The exhibition shows the history of soccer and table top soccer games in two displays but has 10 displays on subbuteo.  The 10 displays shows the history and development of the game from flats over heavy and light weights to sports and related figures.  Next you will find items which relate to the founding and successes of the Belgian Federation and three displays which represent the following historical games: England - W-Germany in 1966, Belgium - USSR in 1986 and Racing Mechelen - KV Mechelen in the Belgian third division in 2005 .... yes indeed, this is the game which featured the most famous streaker, and guess what we have in the display!

But there is more, one large display with a full original subbuteo stadium, featuring Manchester Utd and Chelsea FC in the most recent cup final.  To make the game more visual to the visitors, there will be video's showing how to play and each month the Subbuteo Club Flanders will organize small tournaments in the museum to demonstrate the game, scheduled dates are saturday 30th June and saturday 4th August.

12. Milton Keynes FISTF IO (by Jeremy Bradley -
www.stantonbury.org) on Saturday 29th March 2008
(Individual) and Sunday 30th March 2008 (Team), flick - off 09:30 sharp both days. The new venue is bigger and better than the 2007 event with the hall big enough for 7 badminton courts. There is catering on site including a licenced bar and a foyer for viewing the action from above! Steve Hawkins and myself will run the tournament using the same tried and teated format as this year with groups of at least 4 players in all categories and properly organised competitions for those players who don't qualify for the knock out stages of the Open/Vet tournaments. There will be a visible clock this year and the organisors will have full use of a microphone, thus ensuring improved communication. On the Sunday we will be employing stricter guidelines regarding preparation time between matches to ensure a smoother flowing event! Once again we are very lucky to be using Nicky Chappell's excellent San Siro pitches. The cost of the event will be £8.00 Open/Vets/Womens and £4.00 for Under 19/15/12's. £12.00 for team entries.
Closing date will be Tuesday 25th March 2008. For all enquries please contact either myself at stephen.hawkins@uk.gm.com For all coach enquries I recommend www.nationalexpress.com and for all rail enquries www.nationalrail.co.uk Milton Keynes is easily accessible by road and is at Junction 14 of the M1.

1. FISTF Handbook for the season 2007-2008 I'm very happy to announce that the new FISTF handbook for the season
2007-2008 is now available.
You can download it directly from www.fistf.eu All changes for this season are written in red. Associations officials and tournaments organizers should read the handbook carefully.

Here are some of the main changes.
- FISTF is trying to motivate "partner nations" to become "member nations".
Therefore member nations will have more rights than partner nations in the
future:
a) from this season member nations will have the right to host 3 Satellites, 3 Challengers and 3 Futures;
b) from the season 2008-2009 only member nations will have the right to host a Grand Prix;
- from the season 2008-2009 only the nations who organize a national championship will have the right to host a Grand Prix;
- from this season every 3rd week-end of the month (from september to june) will be only for national competitions (as well as Satellite, Challengers and Futures). The only exception is for the Open of Napoli in september as the organizers had booked the hall before the new rule was announced.
- there are more rules about how to run tournaments and in particular a new chapters with the "duties of the organizers" has been added.
- the are added rules about the status of the players from Monaco.

We at FISTF are open to receive your feedback.

2. About the World Cup
* As a reminder, please note the deadline to register for the World Cup is August 15. Associations must send their registrations to Heinz Eder at laurentgarnier@atenaconcept.com

* Laurent Garnier is still looking for a few more referees for the world cup. All referees will receive some gift, including a nice referee shirt.

* There will be a Gala Dinner on the saturday night. The dinner will cost
15 EUR person. Registrations are open till August 25 from Laurent Garnier at http://www.tsgrain1970.de/GrandPrix2007.htm

4. FISTF Open of Richland, WA (USA)
Lenny Foster from Boise, Idaho won the 1st edition of the desert Cup held in Richland, WA. The tournament was a FISTF Open, the first FISTF tournament ever held in the State of Washington. 11 players were competing.
Eddy Mc Lane lost to Foster in the final while AJ de Leon and host player Todd Kleppin reached the semi-finals.

5. FISTF Future of brussels (by Philippe Hipfinger) The first FISTF future of Brussels SC has been a big success! If finally no foreign player showed up, 22 players competed in 2 main categories, Open with 14 players and U15 with 8 players. Then in the afternoon, there was a second tournament for those who could play with 10 U19 players and 7 veterans !
I have to say that 3 italians players, ranked between the 300 and 400 spot in the rankings, were thinking about coming by plane but finally cancelled.  So it proves that this type of event might have a brillant future in the FISTF calender !
In the Open category, the 2 favourites of the day reached the final, and Olivier Delogne who has already signed for a few weeks to play for Brussels SC next season beat Damien Denooz from SC Stembert, 2-1 after the sudden death ! Old Gil brother will certainly help the current team from Brussels SC to reach higher goals next season !
In the veteran category, Pol Serwy from Jambes SC, a top 10 player in Belgium in the eighties, defeated in the final the local player Patrick Peltier who will represent Belgium at the World Cup in Les Herbiers. Pol Serwy had a great run with also a spot in the semi-finals in Open !
In the U19, Jérémie Gosset from ASH caused an upset by beating in the quarter finals the heavy favourite from Stembert Kevin Beckers, and went on by winning the trophy by beating his older teammate Kevin Moine later in the final ! Olivier Père who came just to drive the kids from his club can be very satisfied about this performance ! And to finish, another surprise was the result of the final in the U15 which saw the 13 old girl from Brussels SC Océan Van Melkebeke beating Jérémie Gosset in the final.
In this final Jérémie Gosset came back from 3-1 down to 3-3 in the last minutes of the match, but the young Océane showed she had nerves and finally won her first big victory !

1. Let's support Paul Eyes
The US Subbuteo family had some tough news this week when we heard that one of our favorite guys, Pay Eyes, has been diagnosed with cancer. We are not sure the details but we want to come together to offer our help and support. One thing I thought every Subbuteo player in the world could do is as follows: what Gregg Deinhart suggests is that everyone mail Paul 1 Subbuteo figure and base of your choice. It can be a figure of significance or just some extra guy. What I envision is that as they arrive, Paul can line them up on a pitch or table somewhere and he will know that we are standing shoulder to shoulder with him through this. This is something simple that everyone can do. It would be great if we could cover his pitch with "supporter figures" from around the world.

I'm sending off my figure (from my 1st National Championship) to Paul with a letter of support today. I'll put my name on the base so he knows it is from me and hopefully I'll be joined by hundreds more. If you support this, do it ASAP.  It will take 5 minutes.

His address is:
Paul Eyes
5471 Watercress Place
Columbia
Maryland 21045
USA

Also, make sure everyone signs his "care page" at this link:

2. World Cup
Registrations are normally over now but we decided to give an extra deadline till august 20th for the late registrations as we haven't heard from some countries.

3. Major of Mattersburg
Wolfgang Leitner won the FISTF Major of Mattersburg last week-end after he beat Eric verhagen 7-1 in the final. Simone Bertelli and Massimo Bolognino lost in the semi-finals. Leitner is the first Austrian to win a Major after
15 titles for Italians, 9 for Belgium and 7 for Portugal. Giacomo Monica managed to win his 2nd Major of the season in the Veterans while Ruben Portugês (U15), Thomas Karnthaler (U19) and Jelena Radic (Ladies) won the other individual titles. The Eagles Napoli won their 16th title in a Major, the 3rd this season. The Italians beat the host team of Matterburg in the final.

4. Satellite of Singapore
The first ever tournament in Asia was held last week-end in Sngapore. 9 players were competiting and Christopher Soh became the first asian tournament winner after beating Erfandy Kusnadi in the final (3-2).
The report of the Satellite is already on the Singapore website (www.freewebs.com/lionssc). The pictures and videos will be put up very soon too!

7. The Netherlands: promotion of the game (by Henk Landzaat) On saturday 10 August the USC Utrecht was present at the "Open Dag" of FC Utrecht in the Galgenwaard Stadion. There were 13.500 visitors and we have had a lot of attention from the crowd. Old-USC-member John van Loen, now assistant-coach of Willem van Hanegem, take his time to play against our clubmembers Marko Karhunen and Paolo Fungardi. For the USC Utrecht this was a great possibility to promote Subbuteo to people who are interested in football. Please see pictures on www.uscutrecht.nl

8. USA: Maricopa Cup (by Simon Hutchinson) On Sunday August 12 Wayne Smith's run of 26 consecutive wins in this year's Maricopa Cup came to an end when he was held to a goalless draw by Simon Hutchinson.  This is the first time he has failed to beat Hutchinson in 50 games.  "Simon's defense was stifling," was Smith's comment after the game.  Despite this set back he still finished in first place with wins over Kevin Nieman and Brian Hook. Hutchinson finished in second place following a draw with Nieman, their 11th in 23 games, and victory over Hook. Nieman's win over Hook gave him third place.  This was Hook's first time competing in the Maricopa Cup.  And as the tournament progressed his opponents noted that his flicking and perception of the game improved. The results, photographs, and a more detail report for the Maricopa Cup seventh round can be seen here:

9. USA: another baby in the FISTF family Gregg Deinhart's second child Braden Daniel Deinhart was born August 12.
Mom, baby, and big brother Nicholas are doing great! Coongratulations to Gregg and his family.

10. USA: SCSC Buhe tournament (by Simon Hutchinson) There was plenty of action in the Southern California Subbuteo Club's Buhe tournament on Saturday 18th August. Wayne Smith proved, yet again, that he is the best player in California winning the tournament with four wins in as many games. The battle for second place saw some of the most intense games between Simon Hutchinson, Kevin Nieman and Steve Tucker.  Winning goals were scored in the closing minutes or seconds of games. It was also memorable for newcomer Brian Hook, who scored his first goal in a tournament.
A detailed report, scores, and photographs can be found at

11. Hansel Mallia
Looks like someone managed to use Hansel Mallia's mailbox and sent a message to all his contacts saying Hansel is now in Africa carrying on a study about racism (!!!). Hansel had therefore to make a new e-mail address, which is now danbaquer@hotmail.com

1. About the World Cup
The World Cup will take place this week-end in Les Herbiers. Due to a lot of drop-outs, in particular in the english, italian and greek teams, the programme of the week-end has slightly been changed. FISTF had suggested to have a veterans tournament with 40 players (8 groups of 5), which Laurent Garnier, host organizer, refused. Therefore the tournament will be played by 48 players, including some extra wild-cards as Nicky Chappell (ENG) and Franz Hipfinger (EBL).

* For the players coming by plane to the Nantes airport, there will be a free shuttle to Les Herbiers on friday at 7.30 PM. Interested players must confirm they want to use the shuttle by sending an e-mail at www.subbuteonews.com (by Christos Archimandritis) I have good news for good players. I have made an advanced searcing filter at SubbuteoNews e-magazine Calendar.

You can filter the FISTF "Tour" by playing level, the "Hosting" of tournament by region or country; and NOW! you can combine the "LOCAL"
competitions of an Association, like Belgium etc (but only for national opens -- individual or teams). The players who played in foreign club, can also combine the "FOREIGN" club's competitions of another Association, like Italy etc. Enjoy it!

3. Transfer news
Ruben Português from Portugal will play for TFC Mattersburg next season.

4. New club in Scotland
The Fair City TFC, based in Perth, has now its own website at http://www.faircitytfc.co.uk/

5. New date for the Satellite of Connecticut The tournament will now be played on November 10-11, 2007.

6. Grand Prix of Finland
A Grand Prix and an Open for Individuals will take place for the first time in Helsinki on May 24 & 25. Interested players can join Kari Hakkarainen at www.sctuh.wz.cz

8. New Board in Austria
The Austria has elected a new Board, which is as follows:
President: Roman HAHSLINGER
General Secretary: Heinz EDER
Treasurer: Manfred SCHUHMANN
Fports Director: Christian BLÜMEL
Organization Director: Michael HASIEBER
National Secretary: Günter EXLER

9. Belgium: the Beach Cup
The belgian association hosted their first tournament for the new season last saturday in Blankenberge. The 4th edition of the Beach Cup was a success with 60 players taking part. Players were divided in 3 divisions.
In the "Serie A", Maikel de haas from the Netherlands managed to beat Delphine Dieudonné in the final while Olivier Père and Antoine Dikaios, two members of the belgian squad for the world cup, reached the semi-finals.
Damien Denooz (Stembert) beat Jos Ceulemans in the final of the Serie B while Ludovic Migeot, the newly-signed player of SC Charleroi, beat Benoît Jadot in the final of the Serie C. Other winners of the tournaments are Henk Landzaat (Veterans), Jérôme Herbecq (U19), Kevin Beckers (U15), Magali Doumont (Ladies) and David Vantassel (U12).

Last year's champion Efrem Intra and Christos Rikos of Greece reached the semis. 1. New at http://www.fistf.eu/ (by Christos Archimandritis) NOW! you can find at FISTF Sports Data Center (http://www.fistf.eu/) the FISTF's official News and Announcements...

You can also find there (also on www.subbuteonews.com) the final archives file of the season 2006-07 and the new archives file with the history of the world Cup.

2. FISTF Tour 2007-2008 - Canadian GP & Open The season started last week-end with the G rand prix and the Open of Canada in Windsor, Ontaio. Unfortunately only 8 players competed in each tournament but the competition was very interesting with many close games and different winners. Zach Walker (USA) took the Grand prix on saturday after he beat Jesper Staal Nielsen (Denmark) in the final (4-2) while Jesper took his revenge on sunday to win the Open against Zach (4-1). All players recommended the tournament for next year as there was a great atmosphere with great food and some players caught a Detroit Tigers game, which was great fun.

3. Grand Prix of Berlin
The tournament website is now at
http://home.arcor.de/mtilgner/internati ... 07-inv.htm

4. Subbuteo in the Flanders
www.subbuteovlaanderen.be is now updated with a brand new design.

5. America Cup
The announcement/logo/website of the America Cup can be found now at http://www.freewebs.com/ferdy22/index.htm

6. News from Southern California (by Simon Hutchinson) Wayne Smith's dominance of the Maricopa Cup continued on Sunday September 9 as he won all of the games he played and conceded only three goals.  With eight rounds played, and only three rounds remaining, his 23 point lead looks unassailable.  In the Newcomers Cup Dominic Hutchinson's two wins puts him into a 10 point lead over the other players who started playing the game this year.
The SCSC regulars were joined by Edward Nathan, who had not played for several years.  He went onto to prove that you can still win games using the Subbuteo lightweight bases, as he won three and drew one of his six games.
Dominic Hutchinson pulled off one of the surprises of the day.  It was not that he beat Adam Carlson, the surprise was that he scored five goals, a new personal best for him.
All the results, tables and photographs can be found at
http://socalsubbuteo0.googlepages.com/maricopacup2007r8

7. List of transfers
Here is the current list of transfers FISTF has received for this season.
We haven't received the main lists fromF rance and Italy. We insist that if some italian players are transferred for this season and they will play at the Open of Napoli this week-end, they must send their transfer to Heinz Eder (www.astrobase.it

1. International Open of Ijsselstein
The first edition of the Ijsselstein Open was a success last week-end as 57 players (from 8 countries) and 7 teams took part. The individual tournament didn't give many surprises as the top 2 seeds met in the final and Eric Verhagen finally beat Kasper Bennett 5-2 in the final. Seeds 3 and 4, Valéry Dejardin and Chris Thomas, lost in the semi-finals. The Dutchment dominated the veterans tournament. Martijn Bom took the title after he beat Patrick de Jong in the final while Philip Van Kommer and Henk Landzaat reached the final 4. Victoria Büsing (ladies), Dominik Schulz (U19) and Mitchell Timmers (U15) took the honors in the other categories while SMV Delft (Bom, Corsten, Stolwijk, de Haas) managed to take the teams title after they beat San Siro Worthing Fivestar in the final.

2. Belgium: national tournament in Tournai The city of Tournai hosted his 10th national tournament last year with 50 players divided in 4 categories. The U12 section had 9 players (with a final victory of Robin Somers from SC Flanders) while the other players were divided in 3 groups. In the "Serie A", Valéry Dejardin took the title for the 2nd time (after his success in 2002) after he beat Delphine Dieudonné 5-2 in the final. In the "Serie B", Ranaud Robillard (Rochefort) confirmed he was the number 1 seed after he beat Vincent Coppenolle
(Templeuve) int he final. Finally the "Serie C" had a great field of players and Ludovic Migeot (Charleroi) defeated Elodie Bertholet
(Templeuve) in the final. In the consolation games, Patrick peltier (veterans), Jonathan Thulier (U19), Donovan Wilfart (U15) and Alysson Moine
(Ladies) took the trophies.

4. List of FISTF clubs
FISTF is compiling now a list of all active clubs in the national associations. The goal of the following file is to help new players to find a club in their area and also to give a possibility to players spending time abroad for business or for holiday to meet other players to practice.
Would it be possible to send the infos you have about the clubs in your association?

If possible, send us the follwing details for each club:
- full name
- contact person + address + phone number + e-mail
- website of the club
- if possible the dates and the location of the clubs meeting

Also, a small text about the geographical situation of the different clubs would be more than welcome. The pages about Belgium and Finland can be taken as examples in the first version of the file, which is available by e-mail from vincent@fistf.com

5. Cardiff Grand Prix
The tournament website address
http://www.subbuteoplayersforum.co.uk/home.html for the Cardiff GP Jeremy Bradley has booked a table in the Hard Rock Cafe in Cardiff City Centre for the Saturday night. Anyone interested in going please contact Jeremy at thomalf.roucas@wanadoo.fr

7. Re-birth for table football in Hong Kong The subbuteo community in Hong Kong is happy to get the support of a new player. Antonio Carabillo, an italian born, is ready to promote the game in Hong Kong and to develop the local scene on the asian map. Any person interestd to join Antonio can drop him a line at mark.meihuizen@subbuteo.ca) has recently been appointed as the new CSTSA President. His first objectives are to work on establishing a Board of Directors, get the calendar of events for the 2007/2008 season sorted out, update our website and to get our various clubs communicating.
The CSTFA will be holding a Canadian National Championship in July of 2008, this is also a big step in getting things going in Canada.

Mark has written this official press release (attached) for distribution throughout the CSTSA, ASA and FISTF, just to make people aware of the recent changes:

A NEW LOOK FOR CSTSA
The Canadian Subbuteo Table Soccer Association (CSTSA) has recently experienced the resignation of Chris Buttigieg as head of the Association.
On behalf of all Canadian Table Soccer players, past, present and future, I would like to wish Chris all the best and say "Thank You" for his dedicated service over the years. I have stepped forward as President of the CSTSA in hopes of organizing, promoting and expanding Table Soccer in Canada.

A few initiatives I have started working on include, establishing a Board of Directors, introducing a Canadian Ranking system, holding a Canadian National Championship and distributing FISTF tournaments in hopes of filling the calendar of events for the 2007/2008 season.

I am virtually unknown on the Table Soccer circuit, however I was introduced to Subbuteo as a child while on a vacation in the UK. I only recently became involved in playing organized Table Soccer and I'm eager to better the game across this country. I made my debut at the Windsor Grand Prix and I/O this month (Sep'07), where I learned many new lessons on playing and realized I have a long way to go. My goal is not only to see Canadians compete at the International level in the World Cup, but to one day compete there myself.

Building the CSTSA into a competitive organization will be a long, slow process. However, rest assured the process has started. In time, the website will be up and running with all the current bylaws, rankings and events list. As well, the website forum will hopefully be a viable source of communication for everybody.

1. Open of Bergkamen
37 players competed in last week-end's tournament in Bergkamen. It was a nice tournament with entrants from 3 countries and a very friendly atmosphere. Nathan Dupont from Belgium took the individual title after he beat Robbert Hoen from the Netherlands in the final. Olivier Père and Ludovic Ponthieux reached the semis. Dominik Schulz (U19), Kai Hagenkötter
(U15 & U12), Nico Marks (Veterans) and Magali Doumont (Ladies) took the other individual trophies while SC Stembert defeated host club of Borussia Bergkamen in the teams final.

2. Open of Mislata
The first spanish tournament of the season was held in Mislata and 29 players from 3 countries took part. Carlos FLores, the number 1 seed, defeated Emilio Richichi from Italy in the final. Tiago Sousa and Raúl Benita managed to reach the semi-finals. Juan Noguera (U19) and Juan Carlos Granados (Veterans) had a great week-end as they took the title in their category but they also helped the newly-formed Real Murcia team to win its first international title. Real Murcia came first in a group of 5 teams.

3. USA: Holiday Silver (FISTF IO)
The Holiday Silver tournament (FISTF IO) will be held in Ellicott City, MD.

5. News from Malaysia (by Edwin Wong)
FISTF-Malaysia was featured in a 8-minute segment on ESPN's "Football Crazy" on their latest Saturday show from 10am-12noon. Apart from introducing the game, ESPN announced the forthcoming EPLFC (English Premier League Fan Club) Table Soccer League, where all official EPL fan clubs in Malaysia will be competing for the championship and cup titles. Each fan club will be fielding a team of 6 players and the final score will be the number of won matches. Matches will be played following the actual league fixtures, including both home and away venues.

6. The retirement of the TV Bahnwiese Mödling (by Thomas Bergholz) It is the 2nd of Sept.2007 and after 23 years it is really hard but one of the oldest clubs of Austria the TV Bahnwiese Mödling have to say "GOODBYE"
to the Subbuteoworld, perhaps this will only a break for few years perhaps forever.
In Summer 1984 we were a big group of friends, we founded the TV Bahnwiese Mödling with full energy and enthusiasm and a tremendous help of one of the best players of Austria "Horst Deimel".
We haven't won many tournaments, one of the greatest moments of club-history were the win of Austrian-championship for teams 1998. We were a club with many tradition, we have played I think 15 straight European Cups for teams, not many clubs have done this. The results were not so good but our philosophy called "we love subbuteo from our heart".
A lot of Mödling players have made so many great results on the ETF- and FISTF-Tour like David Busch, Christian Blümel, Manfred Pawlica, Erich Hinkelmann, Michael Strachovsky and me.
Now our club had only a handful players and the most of us are subbuteo-tired.
It is not the Subbuteo we know from the start and lot of changes were done, not only the rules, but one of reason for me to play subbuteo is the FUN and the last years I thought this not the most important thing for a lot of players of the tour. What is not good for subbuteo? I think to put money for tournaments it is OK, but to pay for players is the wrong way.
Helmut Pichler and I will play the next season for the rising club of Wr.
Neustadt and perhaps we will see us again.
I will say in the name of the TVBM "Thank you" to the whole Subbuteoworld for the outstanding tournaments and games and I hope some of your do not forget the little club of Mödling.
I wish you and your families all the best on your sports- and private ways.
Your Thomas Busch, President of the TVBM

1. Important communication from the FISTF sports department (by Heinz Eder)

World Cup:
The national association has to request the World Cup for their country.
After making a decision on where to hold the World Cup, FISTF BoD will confirm which country has been successful.
After the confirmation arrives with the successful national association, the association has to nominate a competition manager. The Sports Director of FISTF is the competition manager of the FISTF side at the World Cup. If he isn't able to attend, the FISTF-President has to choose another competition manager of the FISTF BoD.
The Head Referee has to be the Sports Director of FISTF, but if he isn't able to attend, the FISTF-President has to nominate another BoD member. In special cases the FISTF-President can also agree that the competition manager only can nominate a Head Referee, but only with the agreement of the FISTF President.
The FISTF-Sports Department decides about the number of starters in each category and about the system the tournament will be organized on. If the organizer wishes, the Sports Department can also support with schedules.
The organizer has to take responsibility about the location, the venue, the organization of tables, the draw and the prize giving ceremony. The draw and the prize-giving ceremonies can only be done with a FISTF-official, unless the FISTF-President gives his personal agreement to do these things without any FISTF-official.

Europa Cup for Clubs:
The national association has to request the Europa Cup for clubs for their country. After making a decision on where to hold the Europa Cup, FISTF BoD will confirm which country has been successful.

The organizer has to take responsibility about the location, the venue, the organization of tables, the prize giving ceremony. The prize-giving ceremonies can only be done with a FISTF-official, unless the FISTF-President gives his personal agreement to do these things without any FISTF-official.

Major Tournament:
A Major tournament can be requested by anybody, who thinks they are able to organize a very good and big tournament.
FISTF BoD decides about the request – in the case of Major tournaments, there are some key things which will be considered by the FISTF BoD:

1. does the competition manager have experience in organizing big international tournaments 2. are Grand Prixs and International Opens organized in the country 3. does the competition manager follow FISTF regulations (in case of experience with organizing other FISTF-events) 4. is there enough material (tables and so on) available 5. there is prize money to pay at Major tournaments

2. FISTF Open of Brussels
Over 100 players and 20 teams competed in last week-end's FISTF Open of Brussels. The tournament was held at the King Baudouin Stadium and attracted entrants from ten countries and 23 different clubs. The team event was very attractive as groups of five were organized, which proved to be a very good idea as all teams played at least 4 games. In the final, San Siro Worthing took the title after a close win over AS Hennuyer (2-0).

In the individual tournament, many surprises occured int he previous round.
BessiM Golger beat Kasper Bennett in the group stages but both players met again in the final and the Englishman took a revenge to win his first international trophy of the season. Vito Di Ruggiero and Valéry Dejardin, who had met in group stage, reached the semi-finals.

There were very few surprises in the other categories and Jérôme Herbecq (U19), Mitchell Timmers (U15), Martijn Bom (Veterans), Laura Beckers
(Ladies) and Kenny De Schuyteneer (U12) took the trophies.

3. Satellite of Hungtingdon
Victor Jones (TSPA) managed to take the first FISTF title of his career after he beat Paul Lawrenson in a very close final in Hungtingdon last week-end. Jones had previously reached the semi-finals of FISTF Satellites in the past but he had never managed to qualify for a final. 14 players were competing. Rob O'Hare and Adrian Curtis reached the semi-finals.

4. More tournaments in the FISTF Tour

6. Changes in Canada (by Mark Meihuizen) The CSTFA announces that the new name of the association is now "Canadian Sports Table Football Association". The change came about because the CSTFA Board felt it was important to distance themselves from the trademark Subbuteo.  Also, it is in line with FISTF and the International community.  Lastly, there is much confusion with the term Table Soccer in Canada as Foosball has already claimed that title.
To go with the new name, we've had a new logo (with thanks to Jeff Drake for pulling it all together).  And finally, a new website and desperately need discussion forum has been launched as well.
Also, the new CSTFA website is now at www.canadiansubbuteo.ca Finally, Mark Meihuizen should be contacted at http://socalsubbuteo.googlepages.com

8. USA: CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP (by Simon Hutchinson) Sunday October 14, is the deadline to register for the first ever California State Championship.
