1. Some news from the Greek Open
The Greek Open was played this week-end in Athens. On saturday, the team tournament was played by 13 teams and Falcons Athens beat Pireas Lions in the final. Among the 18 veterans, Lazaros Papakonstantinou was the winner after he beat Chris Aggelinas in the final.
On sunday, there ware 69 players in the Open category. Spyros Hantzaras won his 2nd Open (the first win was in December 2008, almost one year day by
day) as he beat Velissarios Fragakis int he final. Kostas Triantafillou and Kostas Sesses were the semi-finalists. Dimitris Koulosousas (U15) and Giannis Vlassopoulos (U12) dominated their respective categories. Finally, the great news from the week-end was that the organizers made possible to host the first ladies tournament ever in Greece. 9 girls competed in the event and Dionysia Koulosousa (Pireas Lions) won the final against Eirini Patrikiou (Roligans). Well done to the greek association for such a nice achievement.

2. Daniele Bertelli wins the Christmas tournament As always, a lot of players attended the Christmas tournament organized by the club of Stella Artois Milano (Italy). Daniel Bertelli (Pisa) won the final against Francesco Torano (Bologna) while Bruno Mazzeo and Roberto Rocchi were the semi-finalists. Patrizio Boscolo won the consolation tournament. The club of Master Sanremo won the team event after beating Pisa in the semi-final and Milano in the final. Carlo Alessi won the veterans, Luca Zambello was the best U15 and Paolo Zambello won the U12 section. Doriana Illiano won the ladies final.

3. News from Quebec (Canada)
Pierre Chastenais tries to organise a table football tournament in Montreal on saturday january 30th 2010, and if potential participants are able to make the trip and play in one of the rare canadian events (Canada is, a very big country, and it isn't everyone who can travel) there will be one!
Pierre will handle the organisation, but will need a referee-in-chief who knows the rules of FISTF inside out. The event would be open to players living on the east coast of the USA. If you are interested and can attend, contact Pierre: quebecsubbuteo@yahoo.ca

4. Swiss league
The swiss association has played the first half of the Swiss Championship 2009. Thomas Baumeler is the leader with 28 points, followed by Peter Erb with 18 points,... Six players are competing in the national league.

5. A baby in Malta
A short notice to congratulate Stefan pace and his wife Ritianne for the birth of their second children. Mireille (aged 3) has a little brother called Zach born on November 17th.

6. England: TSPA circuit
Kev Dyson won the 2nd TSPA Circuit event in Huntingdon last Sunday, defeating Jeff Jordan 2-0 in the final. This reverses Jeffs win over Kev in the first event in October in Milton Keynes. The  third event of four will be in Long Eaton on February 21st 2010. The rules are the old ETF ones using a large ball and Swiss baize pitches. For more info contact Jeremy - jeremybradley49@yahoo.co.uk

1. Open of Athens correction
There was a mistake in the previous issue of the FISTF newsletter. The winner of the U15 section at the Open of Athens was Vaggelis Bairas.

2. Sergio Ramos wins in Madrid
The first Satellite of Madrid was played this saturday with a big field of players. Sergio Ramos (Portugal) beat Giuliano Gazzoldi from Italy 4-1 in the final. José Ros and Nicky Napolitano were the semi-finalists. The team event (8 teams) was nice as well with a final victory for the team of Real Murcia B. They beat the Italians of Sanremo in the final. Brescia and Fiamme Azzurre lost in the semis.

3. A very open tournament in Madrid
Giuseppe Guzzetta (Catania, Italy) won the 2nd Satellite of Madrid held this sunday in a shopping center int he center of the city. Guzzetta beat Paolo Finardi (Warriors Torino). Semi-finalists were Claudio Dogali and Emilio Richichi. The Madrid Satellites were very successful with 47 players on each day!

4. Marcos Kapsambelis wins the Satellite of Athens The second greek Satellite of the season was organized this week-end by the club of Roligans. 54 players competed, which is a good number for a Satellite. In the team event, 5 teams were competing and the team of Pireas Lions won the tournament. They had the same number of points as the B-team of Roligans but they had a better number of individual wins. Christos Kourouklis (Roligans) beat his club mate Marios Bourtzonis in the final of the U12 event. In the ladies we had also 6 players and Eleftheria Papanikolaou (Roligans) beat Xiki violetta in the final with a score 1-0.
13 veterans participated in the category. Dimitris Kourambas (Olympia) lifted his first ever trophy beating in the final Chris Aggelinas (AS Hennuyer). In the main event on sunday, there were 34 Open players. The favorites went all the way and Marcos Kapsambelis (seed 2) doubled his victories for the season beating Giorgos Papadopoulos (seed 1) in the final. Giorgos Tsombanidis and Eugene Plytas reached the semis. The tournament was played with the presence of the TV Channel "TRT Turk" and some kids played their first tournament ever thanks to the efforts of the Roligans club, which introduces the game to a lot of young players.
Congratulations to Giorgos Dimakeas and his clubmates for their efforts.

5. The dutch cup for Robbert Thoen
On December 19, 2009 the National Dutch Cup was won by Robbert Thoen. In the final he beat friend and teammate Marco Leeman with 1-0. The 3rd place was going to Nico Marks. He won with 3-1 from Paul Brinker.

6. Pierre De Leeuw is the king in Templeuve
56 players attended the Templeuve national tournament this saturday. The host club was celebrating their 20th birthday and unfortunately many last minute drop-outs were registered because of the snow. Even the trains coming to the Tournai station were late so the start of the tournament was postponed by 30 minutes. In the main category, because of the drop-ous, there were only 6 players taking part. After a groupe stage, Pierre De Leeuw (Charleroi) and Rémi Soret (France) came on top and played the final.
Pierre De Leeuw won the game 4-3 to win the tournament for the second time.
Justin Leroy was 3rd. In the B-category, Rémy Huynh (Rochefort TS) defeated home player Geoffrey Marain in the final (1-0). In the C-category, Eric Threis (Stembert) won the final against Benoît Léonard (Rochefort TS).
Threis was playing his first tournament in 20 years! Jos Ceulemans (SC
Flanders) beat Bruno Goset (Stembert) in the final of the veterans. In the
U15 category, Jérémie Gosset (AS Hennuyer) had no pain to beat David Vantassel in the final. The consolation tournaments were won by Julien Dardenne (B-category), Jean-Luc Platiaux (C-category) and Matthias Mastroianni (U15).

7. New website for Atlas TFC
The greek club of Atlas is building a new website at www.atlas-ftc.com

1. Highlights of 2009
Here is a brief review of the sports year 2009. Hope you enjoy it.
* Daniele Bertelli: 2 months after winning the Grand Prix of Italy, the Italian is world champion again. At the end of a perfect day, he beat Valéry Dejardin to win the title in Rotterdam. The other world champions are Delphine Dieudonné (ladies), Martijn Bom (veterans), Bjorn Kegenbein (U19), Emanuele Lo Cascio (U15) and Diego Tagliaferri (U12). Italy picks up
4 team titles while Belgium wins the ladies section and Spain wins the U19 tournament.
* The European Cup for clubs in held in Tournai (Belgium) and 32 teams are competing, which is a world premiere. The italian team of Eagles Napoli wins the final against TFC Mattersburg.
* Eric Verhagen: the Dutchman is one of the hotest men in the circuit. He wins in Temploux, Edimburgh and Issy. These three tournament were among the best events in the beginning of 2009. At the end of the year, Verhagen is world number 1 again after his victory at the Grand Prix of Austria.
* Carlos Flores remains the world number 1 for many months. 2009 was another great year for the spanish player who won in Cormons, the Majors of Mons & Amsterdam, Corbera de Llobregat and Mislata.
* Worlfgang Leitner wins 4 important individual tournaments: the Major of Mattersburg, the Grand Prix of Germany and the Opens of Traiskirchen and Rain.
* Zach Walker wins the 2nd edition of the "America Cup" and confirms he's stil the top american player for the moment.
* Clifford Graaff wins the very first edition of the Afcon Cup, the largest tournament ever held in Africa.
* Asia is developping as the very first tournament in Japan is held in January in Yokohama and Singapore has a growing number of players. Yusni Den Mulia wins 3 FISTF Satellites while the Singapore Challenger in november has an australian winner: Robert Smith! Also, India becomes full FISTF member!
* South America knows some positive developments: bigger tournaments in Argentina, a new association in Brazil and even a small group of players in Peru.
* The Open of Napoli (Italy) attracts 165 players in october and world champion Daniele Bertelli wins the open title.
* Legends never die: after a long break, Giancarlo Giulianini wins the Satellite of Casale Monferrato ins eptember!
* Greece has growing numbers of players and tournaments. Marcos Kapsambelis wins 2 Satellites where the level is very high.
* Madrid (Spain) is holding 2 Satellites in December. The level is very high and the winners are Sergio Ramos from Portugal and Giuseppe Guzzetta from Italy.
* "Young" countries in Europe are improving their activity: Cyprus had many tournaments last season, Finland has growing numbers, Gibraltar is back on the FISTF map, Switzerland has launched a national league and Malta has a new Board that manages to attract many old players back to the game. Well done to these countries.

2. Which future for the FISTF Board?
On January 23 & 24, the future of FISTF will be discussed at the Extraordinary Congress of Frankfurt, in Germany. Seven nations (Italy, Malta, Greece, Spain, France, Wales & Scotland) have asked this meeting as according to the statutes of FISTF to discuss the vision of the countries for the next four year. Elections might even take place even if nothing is decided yet. This meeting will be a very important one and the current Board members will have to decide wheter or not they wish to continue to work for FISTF. It will then be up to the nations to decide who should be in the next FISTF Board...

3. Your opinion counts
In the next issue of FISTF, I will publish the answers to the next short survey. Could you please tell me:
- the most important facts you remember of the sports season?
- the most important facts you remember off the pitch?
- who is according to you the player of the year?
- what is according to you the team of the year?
- what was the best tournament of the year?
Thanks for your contribution.

4. Satellites in Bergkamen
There will be 2 FISTF Satellites in Bergkamen, Germany on March 20 & 21.
Interested players should contact Thossa Büsing at busing@fistf.info

1. A last newsletter?
There is a lot of sadness today as at the time of writing, I know it's likely this will be the last FISTF newsletter. As you probably know, there will be an Extraordinary meeting in Frankfurt (Germany) this week-end. A lot of people also know that the goal of the meeting is not only to discuss about the future of table football but also a few people have concentratred their energy to "take over" FISTF. Therefore, as there is a big chance that the current active Board members will not be involved in the FISTF Board in the near future, I would like to thank all the readers of the newsletter for their support over the years.

I also want to thank Heinz Eder, Thossa Büsing and Fred Vulpes for their great help over the last few years as they are not only great people and great table football fans but also hard workers and, more importantly, great friends.

For sure there is another person who deserves a special mention int he newsletter. Frédéric Perdaens, the world rankings officer, has proved to be the right man for the job for many years and I'm more than happy to have had the possibility to work with him.

Good luck to the new team. I'm not sure they are aware how much work being a Board member involves but I know they will do their best to keep things going.

2. World Cup 2010
On behalf of the Board of Directors I inform you that the coming WorldCup will take place in GERMANY. The venue will be RAIN. The second candidate
(Fiumicino/Italy) will get the preference for the World Cup 2011.
The world cup website will be up and running soon. The address will be www.worldcuprain2010.de

3. Matzinger wins the national cup in Austria This weekend the Austrian Cup for Individuals and Teams was played in Traiskirchen. 27 players took part in the individual competition. In a close final Markus Matzinger (TFC Mattersburg) won the title against Guenther Bamberzly (TFC Wr. Neustadt) win a score of 2-1. Robert Lenz and Thorsten Korzil (both TFC Mattersburg) reached the semis.
In the team competition the 2 top seeded teams (TFC Mattersburg and TFC Wr.
Neustadt) reached the final. The first halft ended 1-1 (goal difference 1-1). In the middle of the second half Mattersburg scored 3 goals on 3 different tables (in 2 minutes) and the final score was 3 vs 0. Details:
Lenz vs Pawlica 1-0, Matzinger vs Blümel 2-0, Leitner vs Bamberzky 1-0, Korzil vs Hinkelmann 1-1. TFC Mattersburg B and TFC Wr. Neustadt B reached the semi-finals.

4. The Greek cup for Nikos Beis
The 26th Greek national cup was held this week-end. Almost 100 players were taking part. Int he teams section, Falcons won the trophy. Olympia was the finalist while Atlas and Pireas Lions were the semi-finalists.

In the Open category, Nikos Beis was the winner as he beat Giorgos Koutis in the final. Hantzaras and Stamokostas lost in the semis.

Finally, the U15 tournament came to a logical end as Giannis Vlassopoulos beat Koulosousas int he final. Dimopoulos and Bourtsonis lost in the semis.

5. New website in Gibraltar
The Gibraltar Table Soccer Club hasstarted a website at the following
address: www.gibraltartablesoccerclub.com Some pages are still under construction but it's a great move to see the Gibraltar association promoting their activity!

6. News from South Africa
The local association is hosting its annual New Years Tournament this Friday (22 January @ Panorama Sports Club). They are also planning on having an AGM early in February for elections for SATFA posts and to finalize the season 2010. There will be various tournaments in the Johannesburg area.

7. World Cup 2010 in South Africa (by Clifford Graaff) All table football players/enthusiasts/followers planning on visiting South Africa during the World Cup must please contact Clifford Graaff (Chairman of the South African Table Football Association – SATFA) with relevant details of there visit. Information required would be: duration of visit, location of visit and contact information.
SATFA will be recording the above information in order to meet our counterparts from the rest of the world and extend our legendary hospitality to all our new friends.
We would also like to arrange friendly table football games, and where possible, tournaments (at various centers in our country) to coincide with this historic football landmark.
The emphasis of the above (apart from the strong friendships which will be
forged) is to learn more about this great game to improve our local game in the administration, organizing and playing departments.
Janus Gersie visited our country two years ago and played in our first ever GP of Johannesburg(which he convincingly won) and other games against all our local players. He also assisted SATFA immensely in the development of the game in South Africa. Janus is regarded as a GOOD friend of SATFA and more importantly a close family friend of mine as he spent quality time with my me and my family.
We (SATFA), would like to meet the rest of our international  table football family and create more friendships like our Janus Gersie-friendship.
Please forward the information to cgraaff@skyegroup.co.za

8. Some games in Latvia
This monday, the very first games were played in Riga, Latvia. Rene Pukitis, who used to live and play in Canada, brought back some material and managed to get a few new players together to organize games. Hopefully this will be the very first step before organizing a real tournament.

9. Martin Hodds wins
14 players attended the Huntingdon Open last sunday. Martin Hodds was the final winner. The Yorkshire Phoenix player beat Kevin Dyson in the final
(1-1 & shots). Adrian Curtis and Russel Geraghty were the semi-finalists.

10. Carlos Flores again
30 players attended the tournament of El Prat (near barcelona). Carlos Flores beat Angel Valverde in the sudden death of the final (3-2) while the Real Murcia won the team event.

11. One more tournament in Belgium
The Future of Hofstade-Zemst will take place on February 13th. For more details, you can contact Filip Van Hulle at vanhulle.fw@pg.com
