1. First official FISTF friendly game
There will be a friendly international game between Belgium and Italy on saturday in Auvelais, after the team event of the Temploux Open. This will be the first time world ranking points are awarded for a friendly international game.

2. FISTF GP and Open of Norway
Norway will organize for the 3rd year in a row a FISTF week-end on June 23 and 24. Contacts for the tournaments are as follows: Competition Managers are Anders Bergane & Anders Grorud. Address:
Bratsbergkleiva skole
Øvregate 42
3715 Skien
Tel: +4792254746
Email: http://www.subbuteovlaanderen.be/

5. Malta: Samuel Bartolo retains Christmas Cup Samuel Bartolo succeeded in winning the Xmas Cup for the second consecutive year after beating Charles Aquilina in the final 3-2 on shots. Aquilina took the lead in the first half with Bartolo coming out more aggressive in the second half where he managed to equalise and also could have scored the winning goal in normal time. The game finished 1-1 after extra time with the shots determining the winner. With this victory Bartolo have now won the cup for 3 times and has managed to equal the achievements of club mates Mark Gauci and Joe Borg Bonaci. In the semi-final Bartolo gained a 2-0 against Joe Borg Bonaci while Charles Aquilina eliminated Derek Conti 3-2 on shots. This year the prominent Bartolo has registered with the Greek club Atlas Glyfads FTC for whom he is playing this year. He is also occupying the 103 position in the ranking within the international body Federation of International Sports Table Football with 174 points.

6. Malta: Calletta Subbuteo Club: Richard Abdilla Castillo elected president Following the resent resignations of the outgoing president Derek Conti and committee member Samuel Bartolo due to personal reasons, the remainder members of the Committee co-opted Brendon Borg, Robert Azzopardi and Mark Gauci to form part of the new team. During the first meeting held today at the rational committee lunch the duties of the new Committee were discussed and approved. The Committee for the rest of this season would be composed as follows:
President & Financial Director: Richard Abdilla Castillo General Secretary & Communications Director: Joe Zammit Pavia Web Site  Director: Malcolm Abdilla Castillo Sports Director: Robert Azzopardi Assistant Sports Director & Club Upkeep: Mark Gauci Social Activities Director: Brendon Borg

7. Malta: Gauci off to a winning start (from timesofmalta.com) The Malta Table Football Sports Association (MTFSA) recently staged its first competition for 2007 - the second circuit event open exclusively for locals. Some players looked jaded after the festive break. Perhaps, one of the major surprises was Joe Zammit Pavia's progress from a tough group phase. However, he was ousted in the first KO stage by Mario Camilleri.
Massimo Cremona, on a high after retaining his no.1 world ranking last month, made it to the final after a string of great performances. But, it was Mark Gauci who stole the limelight. After a stuttering start where he lost to Kenneth Attard in the qualifying round, Gauci went on to occupy second place in the group and a place in the knock-out phase. He had the better of Derek Conti (5-1) in the quarter-final and then Samuel Bartolo
(1-0) in the semis. The final was a very tight match. Gauci twice took the lead but Cremona levelled the score on both occasions. Then, in the last few minutes, Gauci scored his third and decisive goal. There was little time for Cremona to react as Gauci went on to collect maximum ranking points for his victory. Those interested in joining the MTFSA may obtain more details by phoning 9943-6969 or visit website www.freewebs.com/maltatfsa

9. Looking for logos
Friedel Molinaro from Hitdorf in the meantime - especially thanks to the support of Nico Marks - has compiled most of the logos of teams that played in the Europa Cup since 1993. There are only missing informations about the logos of the following clubs:
FTC Beausoleil (FRA)
Louvroil FTC (FRA)
Olympique Vitry (FRA)
FT Cannes (FRA)
FTC St. Symphorien (FRA)
TSC Latina (ITA) - they had stickers some years before!
SC Genova (ITA)
Leamington TFC (ENG).
Friedel especially begs the French players to support him with informations.
Anyone who can help please contact Friedel by email vincent@fistf.com

1. Carlos Flores on top in Oldham
Carlos Flores (Spain/Bologna Tigers) won last sunday's Grand Prix of England after a thrilling final against Massimo Cremona (4-2). Flores had previously beaten Joseph Borg Bonaci, Darren Clark, Chris Thomas and Eric Verhagen verhagen before reaching the final. Sérgio Loureiro had also reached the semis but lost to a single goal against Cremona.

Bologna Tigers, with both Flores and Loureiro, also won the team event after a close final against Mattersburg (Austria). Austria's Christian Haas took the U19 title while Phil Redman beat Riccardo Marinucci in the veterans final.

There are nice pictures of the event at
http://www.ctp-gallery.co.uk/TS-070120/

2. Severino Gara wins in Rome
Last week-end's FISTF Satellite of Rome was a huge success as 72 players and 13 teams were taking part. Local player Severino Gara manages to beat last year's winner Enrico Giudi 3-2 in the final (golden goal). The local team of Black Rose won the team tournament after a 4-0 final against Sessana.

1. FISTF is looking for...
...Someone who might write tournaments reports for the FISTF website and the FISTF newsletter. The candidate should have english language skills, a knowledge of table football and its players and be available to write reports in the 24 hours following events (when results are available). A bare minimum of PC knowledge is a must. Candidatures can be sent to Vincent Coppenolle at http://www.subbuteo.ca/ is on-line! Mike Ewer has produced a super webpage for the canadian association and FISTF hopes that it will be a great tool to develop the game in the country.

5. Looking for World Cup logos
Any person who can find the logos of the FISTF World Cups
2001-2002-2003-2004 should send a copy to Laurent Garnier www.laziotfc.com too! The club recently constituted a non-profit sport association, following the official guidelines of the Italian Federation FISCT, made compulsory from this season for all Serie A and B clubs. Although still in Serie C, as other clubs in the same division, Lazio preferred to acquire this new status straight away in order to be able to access funds and programmes available by law for this type of association in the country.
With this occasion we changed the name from Lazio CCTS to Lazio TFC (Table Football Club)

9. Austria cup (by Christian Blümel)
Austrian Cup was played last weekend in Traiskirchen. Mattersburg won the Team Event against the DEVILS Austria 3:0. Royal 78 and Mattersburg B were the semifinalists.
In the individual final Markus Matzinger beat Karl-Heinz Haider 4-3 in overtime. Robert Lenz and Christian Blümel reached the semis.

10. Open of Traiskirchen (by Marcus Tilgner) The webpage for the Austrian IO in April is running since several weeks now.
http://home.arcor.de/mtilgner/bfc07

11. New contact person for Malaysia
Here are the details of Edwin Wong, our new contact person in Malaysia. I wish Edwin the best of luck to organize the game in Malaysia and hopefully to host some FISTF tournaments in the near future.

12. Johannesburg Open rehearsal news (by Reza Bodiat) With the Johannesburg open just a week away....a  few of us got together today (3 February) to have a mini tourney in order to get  some game practice and ensure everyone understood playing rules  etc.
Clifford Graaf will no doubt go into next  weeks tourney as firm favourite after having a fantastic day in playing 5 games  and winning 5. He possesses patience, precision and accuracy and is no doubt  the firm favourite to win the the SA OPEN next week. Taariq Bodiat will be favourite to win the juniors section after impressing in his  games.
As for myself, I was very dissapointing and had an  off day...losing to Graaf on each occassion. He is really good.....best i've  seen this side of the world. Glad we have his pedigree on our side.
More from the Open next week........

1. World Cup website
The link to the official world cup website is www.football-de-table.com The pages are still under construction though. There will be a french version first and the english version will be available in a couple of days.

2. Vasco Guimaraes, king of Elbeuf
Vasco Guimaraes won his 7th open title in a FISTF Major this week-end. The portuguese player beat Spain's Carlos Flores in the final (1-0). Alex Iorio and Eric Verhagen reached the semis while Cremona, Dejardin, Bolognino and Loureiro didn't manage to win their game in the last 8 round. 145 players from 10 nations were taking part, including 96 in the open category. Lots of surprises happened in the early rounds. Claudio Dogali defeated world champion Efrem Intra in the last 64 round while Alain Hanotiaux and Sami Targui didn't manage to reach the 3rd round.
24 teams were competing in the team event. Italy made another sensational tournament and managed to bring three teams in the semi-finals but finally, the Belgians of Charleroi won the tournament after they beat Napoli and Perugia in the final. it's the 3rd time the boys from Charleroi win a Major after Mons 2000 and Sucy 2001.
Italy had a great consolation though as the very promising Mattia Bellotti won the U15 title after a close win (2-1) against Julien Dardenne from Belgium while Giacomo Monica beat Severino Gara in the Veterans final.
Belgium dominated the U19 tournament. Logan Carette and Justin Leroy were expected to play the final together but they had a lot of bad luck in the semis. Leroy qualified on shots to Ralf Grégoire while Kevin Dröhsler defeated Carette 5-4 in the sudden death. Leroy gave no chance to win the Dröhsler in the final though (3-0).
The new Ladies world number 1, Françoise Guyot, managed to keep her title of last year. The french girl defeated her sister Arielle in the final.
Guyot, who also defeated Jessica Hardenne in the semi, wins therefore her 4th FISTF Major.
If the tournament was quality, the important piece of news this week-end was the fact that the event organizer, Patrick Pellerin, announced he would not be back next season: "We played the 20th edition of the tournament in
2007 and I think it's time to stop. Our club is now low in numbers and we think it's time to think about other priorities. Also, the lack of discipline of players when games were announced convinced me it's time to stop."
Elbeuf has been a FISTF Major since 2002 and was probably one of the best events organized on a yearly basis in the history of FISTF.

3. Friendly game
Italy beat Malta in a friendly international last saturday in Elbeuf. The result will not be official in the FISTF archives as the game had not been announced one week in advance as stated int he FISTF handbook. Scores were as follows:
Francesco Mattiangeli (then Massimo Bolognino) - Mark Gauci 4-1 Enrico Guidi - Samuel Bartolo 5-1 Saverio Bari - Massimo Cremona 1-1 Efrem Intra - Hansel Mallia 2-0

4. Open of Rain
The GP for teams and IO for Individuals in Rain (Germany) will take place on August 4 & 5. The Competition Manager is Hans Ruf (mail:
Kari.Hakkarainen@tietoenator.com) will be the competition manager. The address of the tournament venue is this: Helsingin Rudolf Steiner -koulu (Rudolf Steiner -school of Helsinki) Paraistentie 3 00280 Helsinki

6. Major of Mons
Alld etails about the tournament are available at http://www.ashennuyer.be/site/major/2007/index.html

7. Open of Reggio Emilia
Registrations must to be done on www.fllibari.it site and note on Marco Lamberti's e-mail address.

8. Open and Satellite of Malta (by Stefan Pace) The Satellite and International Open of Malta will  be organised on the 24th and 25th of March respectively by Hamrun Table Football  Club. The invitation file will be available shortly. In the meantime  registrations can be made by email to Stefan Pace: alexpp2@wanadoo.fr The file is available in english, french and italian.

10. FISTF statistics
Wolfgang Haas just wanted to let you know that his university is going to make some changes to user accounts and as a result, the FISTF results & stats webpage can now be accessed under a new URL:
http://www.sfu.ca/~haasw/subbuteo/results.html
http://www.sfu.ca/~haasw/subbuteo/stats.html

The old address will simply forward you to the new one, but only until the end of April. He would therefore ask all of you to please update your bookmarks.

11. First South African Open and rankings (by Reza Bodiat) After qualifiers, the South African Open today saw  it's two first official number one ranked players in the adults and junior  sections. The open held at Parc De Graaf saw the top 4 adults  and top 4 children compete in their respective groups.
In the juniors sections, brothers Taariq and Yasser  Bodiat came up against each other in the finals for the highest ranked South  African juniors. Older brother Taariq was victorious in a two nil win.His first goal was a penalty after some sloppy play by Yasser. The second in a tightly  fought midfield game came again after a mistake. Losing possession just out his  own area,Yasser left a hole in his defence as his older brother kept possession  well before unleasing an unstoppable shot which buried itself to the keepers right. Not much of a contest after that and Taariq held on to claim the crown,  deservedly so too.
In the adults section, Clifford Graaf (Rangers) who  was previously unbeaten, met arch rival Shaun Morgan(Scottish Vets) in the  final. Graaf no doubt the favourite to get number one ranking started superbly  with his close control and posession play - accuracy was his advantage and  inside the first three minutes lay siege on Morgan's goals and only some heroic goalkeeping kept the score respectable.
Graaf did take the lead, deservedly  so too as a well worked goal supported by fantastic possession play going back  to his own penalty area saw a magical finish.
Graaf played patiently and took  9 perfect flicks to execute an unstoppable finish which he buried with some  accuracy beyond the outstretched arms of the opposition keeper.
The half  belonged to Graaf and he could and should have gone into the break with a much  bigger lead.
The second half saw Morgan come back strongly. Early signs  showed that he had the necessary skill to get back into the game and he did so  with some class.Picking up a ball in midfield, Morgan patiently played a number  of one two's before playing a sublime ball through the opposition defence to set  up a fantastic goal. With the goal in sight, he opted for a pass and when the  ball fell awkwardly, one thought he had missed his chance but a terrific spin  pass inside the shooting area saw a chance created perfectly as he stroked the  ball home leaving Graaf helpless.
The rest of the game was fairly tight and one  sensed extra time golden goal was going to settle it.
It took 3 and a half minutes for glory as fantastic  patient  play saw 3 players released into the shooting area, each with a  scoring shot on but further patience and precise flicking made for the perfect  goal. The ball again played invitingly and with some power, a dipping shot to  the right from Morgan gave Graaf no chance as the ball hit the back of the net  and bounced inside the gaol to give Shaun Morgan the coveted title and the honour of becoming South Africa's first official number one ranked  player.
The open was superbly organised and the momentum is  now on to further grow the South African interest.
League results, rankings and tables will be  communicated to FISTF.
Future opens will take place on a regional basis and  our hope is to stage the 2010 SUBBUTEO WORLD CUP in conjunction with the FIFA  WORLD CUP in South Africa.
The game is alive...and flicking ....in the gateway  to Africa...
Congratulations once again to our two winners,  Shaun Morgan and Taariq Bodiat

12. Results from Finland (by Miku Leppälä) Table Football action in Finland continued at the  second weekend of February in Helsinki when players all around Finland gathered  to play for Finnish ranking points. Eliot Kennedy from Australia joined the  Saturday competition with FISTF rules. Table Football as a competive game is truly raising in Finland  as a delegate from Finland is participating the GP-tournament in Odense,  Danmark at late February and Finnish attendees will probably also  participate the international tournament in London in March. Results:
Saturday 10th Feb - FISTF-rules (Top  8): 1. Jani Mustonen, Varkaus ; 2.
Petri Pekkala, Helsinki ; 3. Kai Grönfors, Helsinki ; 4. Vesa Mattila, Helsinki ; 5. Kari Hakkarainen,  Helsinki ; 6. Miku Leppälä, Laukaa ; 7.
Petri Kokkonen, Helsinki ; 8. Tuomas Kivelä, Järvenpää.

This was the first ranking tournament with Finnish  rules in this Millenium so the ranking list is identical with the tournament  results.

13. Scotland: McDonald Cup
The final positions of the McDonald Cup played in Edinburgh after 4 rounds of Swiss system matches were
1 Steve Bennett ; 2 Jim Law ; 3 Gareth Christie ; 4 Daryl Shanks ; 5 Max Wright ; 6 Scott Fleming ; 7 Greg Dand ; 8 Michael Burns ; 9 Neil Christopher ; 10 Les Bates ; 11 Colin Matthew ; 12 Brian Clark ; 13 Kevin Christopher ; 14 Robert Ramsay ; 15 Iain Bell ; 16 Terry Brown ; 17 Susan Wright ; 18 BaverBari; 19 Allan Manson ; 20 Mark Roberts ; 21 David Lodge ;
22 Nicole Kettlles
Congratulations to all, particularly for the organisation and hospitality , and also a record number of entries for a Scottish event.

In this week's issue...

1. Athens to host the Europa Cup
FISTF and the an-Hellenic Association of Table Football are proud to announce that the forthcoming Europa Cup for clubs will be held in Athens, Greece. The exact date of the event should be announced soon. A website will also be launched shortly. Contact: Chris Aggelinas at olivier.pere@skynet.be

5. Brussels national Open (by Philippe Hipfinger) Valery Dejardin won against Bessim Golger, the final score was 1-1 after sudden death, and Valery won 3-2 in the shoots. Bessim played 100 metres away from his home and was eager to win, but, Valery proved again he is the best current belgian player! The semi-finalists were Justin Leroy and Vito Di Ruggiero.  62 players took part in this national event which was divided in 6 categories (A, B, C, D, veterans and U12) In the serie D, Brussels based Kyriacos Ktenas from Cyprus was able to collect his 2 first victories in a tournament and reached the semi-finals.
Well, at least the next 2 seasons Brussels will be back in the international calendar as on the 6 and 7 october 2007, we will organize a IO on the hall of honour of King Baudouin Stadium and the year after, we will probably do the same but then we will have a Grand Prix for individuals

6. Carlos is champion
Carlos Flores won the national title in Spain last week-end. The Bologna Tiger defeated teamate Raul benita in the final (2-1). Vicenç Prats and Angel Valverde reached the semis. Juan Carlos Granados defeated Arturo Martinez int he Veterans final while Juan Noguera is the new U19 champion.
Asociacion Murciana managed to take the teams title after they won their five games in a small league of 6 teams.

7. Video report os a subbuteo game in Singapore Watch "Lions Subbuteo Club Trial Video Service" on Google Video at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... pr=goog-sl
The level of play is quite interesting, even if Singapore is really far away from Europe and North America.
This video proves there is a clear potential for the game in South-East Asia and that the next step now is to organize a first FISTF tournament soon.

8. Milton Keynes Open (by Jeremy Bradley) The new website for the tournament is www.subbuteoplayersforum.co.uk/home.html
The entries are being corrected tonight by Martin Evans and various parts of the site will be updated shortly, e.g. directions, info about the evening activities ETC.
Currently we have 54 entries in the Open including juniors and 9 in the veterans as well as 9 in the team event. Subject to agreement from the relevant national associations we will also have some international friendlies on Sunday morning. Entry is £10.00 for Open/Veteran entrants, £5.00 for under 19's and £12.00 for teams. Closing date is March 13th.

9. subbuteoworld.co.uk -> stands in stock subbuteoworld.co.uk is now selling Zeugo grandstand and spectators.

1. Europa Cup for clubs 2007
The Europa Cup will be played on October 27 and 28 in a sports hall in Athens. More information will be provided soon.

2. FISTF Major of Mons
Gil Delogne (D.E.V.I.L.S. Austria) managed to win the 3rd Major of his career after an impressive competition held in Mons, Belgium. Delogne had already won the tournament 4 times in the past, in particular in 2002 and
2003 when the event had already the Major status. The guy from Brussels beat Vasco Guimaraes 2-1 in the sudden death in the semi-final and Carlos Flores 2-1 in the final. Flores therefore lost his 5th final in a row in a FISTF Major and will still have to wait a bit more for a first victory.
Guimaraes has also impressive stats to show. Mons was the 30th Major in the history of FISTF and it was already the 15th times the Portuguese reached the semis.
In the veterans, Ron Corsten (SMV Delft) beat Phil Redman in the final. The 'young' Dutchman proves with this first title in a Major that the netherlands will have a very strong team at the next World Cup for veterans with Landzaat, Marks (who defeated Stefano De Francesco 3-0 in the barrage round), Stolwijk and Bom.
In the ladies section, Françoise Guyot gave no chance to Jessica Hardenne to take her revenge after the semi-final at the Major of Elbeuf. Guyot proves again that her number 1 spot in the world rankings isn't due to any kind of luck. Audrey Herbaut and Elodie Bertholet (who is 8 months
pregnant!) reached the semis.
In the other categories, Juan Manuel Noguera from Spain beat Daniel Wienbrandt from Germany in the U19 final. This category was very Open with all quater-finals being decided on sudden death or shots. Logan Carette and Ralf Grégoire lost in the semis.
In the U15 category, Simone Palmieri beat his fellow Napoli 2000 teamate Mattia Belottiin sudden death. José Maria Rodriguez and Andrea Manganello lost in the semis.
France also won the U12 tournament. Arnaud Le Teno proved he has much more experience than his opponents as he beat Jémérie Gosset, a newcomer who started playing in october, in the final. Terry San and Rimy Guyot managed to reach the semis of a tournament that attracter 20 young players!
Finally, the teams tournament was dominated by the Eagles Napoli. They beat Perugia in the final while the D.E.V.I.L.S. Austria and Charleroi lost in the semis. Bologna, Milan, AS Hennuyer and Mattersburg lost in the quarter-finals of the event, which was played by 39 teams.
Once again, Mons proved to be the best tournament of the season with a fantastic field of almost 200 players and a very fair spirit all over the week-end.

3. FISTF Awards 2006
The presentation of the awards took place in Mons this week-end. Thanks to Thossa Büsing for organising that and to Astrobase for being our partner.
Here are the winners:
Player: Efrem Intra
Team: Eagles Napoli
Veteran: Martijn Bom
Woman: Kamilla Kristensen
U19: Justin Leroy
U15: Mattia Belotti
Tournaments: Dortmund (FISTF World Cup in Germany)
Officals: Vincent Coppenolle
Newcomer: Björn Kegenbein
Fair-Play: Christian Haas

4. FISTF international friendlies
3 international friendlies were played last saturday in Mons. Belgium defeated Greece 3-0 while the two other games ended on draws. Belgium vs Malta ended on 2-2 (with wins of Gil Delogne and Valéry Dejardin for belgium and Massimo Cremona and Marc Gauci for Malta) while Spain and Greece drew 1-1 (with wins of Lazaros Papakonstantinou and Carlos Flores).

5. Challenger and Future of Lisbon II (April) cancelled Luís Filipe Horta, the APS Board President, is sorry to inform that Challenger and Future of Lisbon II (April) were cancelled by the CM Paulo Sena and must be removed from the FISTF Calendar.

Surprise package of the day was the other beaten semi-finalist, Peter Morrison, who got through a tough group unbeaten, behind Beggs and ahead of Barry Spence.

Andrew Morrison won the Under-19 trophy, which was played as a 3-player round robin. Peter Morrison was 2nd and John Hughes, playing in his first tournament, was 3rd. Barry Spence beat Alistair Morrison 2-1 with a golden goal in the Plate Final.
